| The Naughtiest of Birds | Personal Registrations My MCS is due in my local dealership around 7th July 2003. However, I've decided to put one of my personalised reg plates on so she's ready to go when I pick her up. My dealership has now said that this will delay the collection by at least a week! Is this usual for adding your own regs? As you can imagine, I'm itching to get my MCS asap. Am I better off transfering it after I collect the car? Will I need to pay the £80 transferal fee again plus price of new plates? Does it help with resale if my car has an original 03 registration already assigned to it? Lots of questions, but I don't want to forward my reg documents to them if I'm to wait even longer for this lovely car! Already waited since March.... ![]() |

Offline | If the Reg is on retenion there is no reason it should delay delivery. If however, its still on a car, you have to first put the Reg on retention and this takes the time. It took two weeks in total for me, but it can take longer. The cost is £105. Global Moderator ![]() |

| If your reg is on a car just take the V5 to the dealers along with a cheque for £105 and when they take your new cars docs to register it they can transfer the plate there and then. If it's on a retention certificate at the moment just take it to the dealers and ask for it to be placedon the car. A new car has to be registered by the dealer anyway so it doesn't matter if it is with a new reg or your existing plate. If you don't put your plate on the car when you collect it but put it on at a later date if the numbers on retention you don't have to pay again. So basically if the numbers on a car there is a £105 charge, if it's on retention the charge has already been paid. Hope this makes sense. I'm putting my plate on from new, all I have to do is take the cert down to the dealers 2 days before I collect it. J. |

Offline | It didn't delay mine at all. Get the plate, give them all the paperwork and plates well in advance then it should be OK, my dealer was brill!! If you think about it, why should it take them so long, they still need to register a number plate to the car anyway! ![]() Chlli Red Cooper, White roof, 17" S Spoke, Chilli Pack , Chrome Vents, Personalised Plate + all other little extras inc CD Boost, Air Con, Heatad Mirrors, Traction Control. |

| The Naughtiest of Birds | Thank you everyone, that really clears it all up! My dealership is probably just using the reg plate as an excuse if the car is slightly late. This way, if it is late, I might be able to get some free mats out of them. I've just bought the plate so it's all new to me. I just didn't want to pay a £105 transfer fee. My plate is on retention. Thank you to everyone! |

Offline | I never wanted one before I had my Mini, I just thought they were pretensious. However, I put one on from new and it didn't cause a problem. However, I have been told that if you have your car written off in an accident, you must get the regitration removed form your old car before you settle with the insurance people.... if you wait until after the insurance people have settled, you will find that the ownership of the registration number will have changed hands with the carcas of the written off car. |

Offline | From what my mate says, "any 2 cars or 2 bikes can have the same reg for a set time" ie your old car can have the same reg as the one your picking up, so no delay there. It would be then up the dealer to re reg the old car. As my mate is the press manager for Ducati uk and spends most of his time taking new bikes to the dvla in Northampton to get them reg'd, it seems to correct Anyway hope this helps you get some new mats out of your dealer!!! I have a cunning plan! |

| The Naughtiest of Birds | I hope so too! They have been pretty great but are reluctant to give away freebies for whatever reason. I'd love a diecast model or preferably a free car. I wonder what would have to happen for them to give me the MCS free......... I'll work on that. |

Offline | i love my numbers. (i got 2)....got one from my mum when she got divorced, as she has no wish for it now,..but when me and the missus get married, then they can both be resurrected again. had my own (A* YUL) for YEARS. its a perfect fit for my name, and now ive got A& YUL on the MINI, which the missus is mostly going to be driving. it may be pretenious, (it may also be easier for people to remember your number and report you if you cut them up!!!!!!), but its another small tool which helps to keep the car personalised. Offline | Where to buy the plates from... Could I also ask from where people have acquired their plates? I have had a look on the DVLA and have seen a couple that would suit my imminent new delivery, but I would like to have a quick look elsewhere just to see other choices... The other thing was, prices on DVLA start from £250 inc £80 registration charge, what are the prices like elsewhere, and do the delivery/administration delays vary from supplier to supplier? For some reason I'm under the impression that retailers need to be registered? Is this the case, and if so, how would I know? It's a veritable minefield for the uninitiated ![]() If anyone can help, 'twould be appreciated... |

| The Naughtiest of Birds | Re: Where to buy the plates from... I bought my plate M** SKS from www.pl84u.co.uk last Thursday, having been enquiring about this plate for over a year. Their price was the best by far, beating DVLA and www.newreg.co.uk by over £100. Although the website isn't fantastic, the service is highly personalised as it's run by one guy. Some tips: most websites do a price matching promise, start with the highest and beat them down by comparing them to another reg website. They are usually flexible as most of the plates have been on their books for years. I saved at least £120 this way! The more you search for a particular plate, eventually the price will go up. The search facilities on these websites will collate how many times somebody looks for a plate over a long time. An example of this is D12 DRE when Eminem started up D12. This plate was £250. Once featured in a magazine, people started to look for the plate (often with no buying intention), this plate is now at least £1500. However, I think that personalised plates are great if you can afford them. I was surprised at how little mine could be bought for. My boyfriends plate was in the 1000s but it is way better than mine and dateless. I'm not a big fan of the Irish regs of 4567 DAZ...etc (very tacky) ![]() |

Offline | Re: Where to buy the plates from... I bought mine ** 5 CPR from DVLA www.dvla-som.co.uk for £250, ALL IN!! I also 'saw it on www.regtransfers.com for £850!! ie they buy it from DVLC add 600 and sell it to you. I did however use Regtransfers to make the plates as they do a nice set with borders in the colour to match the car. PS If anybody wants to buy my plate its now available PM me. 'You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off.' SOLD it! |

Offline | Just bought one from DVLA for my August arrival - "M7 NL*" Now all I need to do is sell my old private plate - anyone know of a good dealer for this? Would prefer to sell it outright rather than have it listed on some database for goodness knows how long! |
