Offline | painting black trimming - should i do it??? been thinking about painting the black trimming around the whole car.. just got a quote for 1200$ for a very professional job - and im happy to pay it... BUT as im leaving the painter he tries to talk me out of doing it saying "some things are better left original" and "some people may not like it when you sell it" what should i do??? i loved the idea but it has got me thinking now go check out pics to see my car and make a decision thanks benno |

| #1647 of 1960 | bk, the black accent does look nice with most all colors, and especially silver, it gives the car some nice definition. The biggest hassles are keeping wax off of the plastic & keeping the plastic from fading out. As an alternative consider having the black trim painted black! Then it could be waxed with the rest of the car and you would essentially maintain the original look. I actually wish someone would sell painted black replacement kits so the existing trim could be swapped out with no painting required. (So you would have to add a "Both" option to your poll for me to vote! ) |

Offline | bartmack just talked to the painter. he said he'll give 10% discount if i pay cash so im even more into it now! i was thinking more about paint chips in the side skirt behind my front wheels but the guys who are doing it for me are supposidly "the best" around where i live.. they smooth the plastic and make it look like the plastic is part of the metal.. they actually remove all the trimmings and stick them in some oven, and do a hell of a job! i think i will most likely get it done.. thanks for the reply though! benno |

| Let's Motor. | ![]() It's all a matter of $$$$$, and right now I don't have any. ![]() I first wanna put a lot of performance mods into my puppy, which I have already started doing, then make it look pretty. Althought I have gotten the white lights, and they look fantastic. But believe me, the painted moldings is definitly on the list. ![]() Adam ![]() |

Offline | ahh ok! fair enough then im planning on doing the opposite from you. just making my car look nicer and stand out a bit more.. then im going to do some performance mods like the 15% pulley , maybe ECU remap, but its costly isn't it! benno |

| Let's Motor. | Really benno, this is your car, I wouldn't base what you do on a poll. It's your car, you should do what makes you happy! ![]() If you really think it looks nice then get it, if you're still wishy-washy about it, then wait alittle longer and take some more time to think, just don't base your decision on what other people say. ![]() Adam ![]() |

Offline | Not on a Silver car mate, the black gives your car some interesting lines, painting them will spoil it. This looks great on EB cars, don't be too swayed by that picture, you need to see what it looks like on just a Silver car. But thats just my opinion, Mini is abut indeviduality, so if you decide to go ahead I hope it looks good. It's your car, do what you want to do. Plenty of photos later though.... Good luck |

Offline | I've never seen one on the streets, but in those pics it looks very good... I would like to know something more about the paint job: did the painter gives you a warranty for the job? -i've seen a lot of cars with painted bumpers, but usually in 2/3 yrs (depends on your parking habits ) the paint job begins to detachprobably they weren't "professional paintings" but... how do you discover if it's a god or a bad job? last... sorry but *in my opinion* DS is the only color in which i would keep the original trimmings... ![]() |
