United-States Cooper S inbreeding (pics)

Well it finally happened today. We had some sun on a weekend. So I decided to see what happens when a cooper mates with a cooper S. Here are the results. Three people where needed to record data and do the work:
The Supervisor:

The Helper:

The pieces:

Tools:

Glueing in the chrome:

Completed front Bumpers:

Rear bumper:

Needed some modification:

off comes the old

Installing Stone guards on the fogs:

Ahh no bumper:

Completed

Tell me what you think!!!!!

There where some tricks involved in this project and I will answer anyone¡¦s questions.

Nice! Chrome is GOOD and the S needs chrome! Well done.

Now you need the 3-slat chrome Cooper S grille.

Looks like it was getting dark by the time you took the picture of the rear bumper on the car. Do you have any other photos of it that show it more clearly?

I'd like to see how you handled the change to the twin central exhausts.

I agree with the coments above.

Very neat job!

Need more photos!

You should probably fit the chrome s grille top half.

That looks cool
This it what I like about the whole series,
you can mix and match parts from one platform to another and they ALL look good After all, its all about individuality. Why should ANYONE object !!! Nice car. Nice touch.

Something I thought of.

The MINI One D (diesel) comes with an option for chrome bumper (inserts) like the Cooper, but is a different shape to allow more air in (ala Cooper S), and the Diesel also has S side skirts etc. So the front and rear 'bumper' sections might fit nicely on the Cooper S, AND give you the chrome, while not decreasing the air coming into the front. Also, the rear doesn't have an exhuast outlet at all, so you could cut your own if you're careful enough.

See pics in the news section or diesel forum to get what I mean.

Not sure HOW you'd get those diesel parts in the USA though!

Paul Mullet,
I measured the opening (were the air passes through) in the lower grille and the Cooper and Cooper S are the same size. The actual size of the Cooper S grille is larger but a big part of is not open to airflow. I will take some more measurements though.

Anand,
I will keep my Cooper S I liked tHe cooper bumpers better and that is why I did this. Thanks for the offer

1 question:
i'm sure u've done a lot of research so hopefully u can tell me the answer to this. i have a cooper and want to change the exhuast to twin pipes and put them in the middle like on an MCS. do the black plastic moulding bits on the back of a cooper S fit on the back of a cooper? i have noticed that it is a bit wider than the cooper ones, so i'm thinking i have to change the two side ones as well...do u know what i mean?

i got an exhaust because i wanted to make my car sound fast, but its not fast at all, so therefore i am a ricer....

There Black rear skirt from a cooper s will fit on a cooper bumper (like my car). YOu will have to trim the rear skirt a little bit though. Email me at Douglas_Cerny@reyrey.com

I also believe that the stock Cooper s exhuast will not fit a regular cooper buase the cooper has a spare tire well the takes up the space of the driver side muffler. I will look further into this and hopefully have an answer for you tomorrow.
