Offline | DIY: Fitting Cooper S sideskirts to Cooper (ADDENDUM) The DIY guide for this swap is very helpful and thorough, but I noticed a few omissions that I thought would be helpful. 1) The clips described by P/N "51 71 1 496 621 - Clip (8 required)" are actually the top clips hiding under the metal scuff plate. While these SHOULD be replaced because they deform on insertion, these are not actually the "locating clips" that break when you pull off the sideskirt. It should be noted that if you pry them up a little bit, they will rotate 90 degrees and come out very cleanly. I reused 4 of them after learning on the first side. I only did this because the skirts are coming off again very soon once I get the locating clips. I will use all new clips as they are very cheap anyways ($0.20 each). 2) Seeing as how I just finished this up about 15 minutes ago, I don't have the part number for the black and white clips that break when you pull off the side skirts. The white clip in the rear breaks off in the car, but it is easy to access the rear of it through the wheelwell and clip the back of it off with side cutters. The remaining clips (broken) will rotate 90 degrees and slide out EXCEPT for the one near the rear seam of the door. This is a tricky bugger and you can weasel it halfway out and clip one of the sides of the clip and work the rest out. One of my pet peeves is little pieces rattling around in my car, even if these would work their way out in a matter of miles. 3) There are 8 screw rivets and 1 metal screw in the very back holding the underside of each sideskirt. Be very careful with the plastic screw rivets as they strip very easily. Use a small flat-head screw driver to support the outer section of the rivet while unscrewing. After they are out, work your way from the back to the front with firm tugs pulling the skirt from top and bottom. 4) For once, putting it back together is easier than taking it apart... ![]() I will edit this post with the entire part number list as I obtain them. Pics too. Hope this helps anyone else trying to do this mod. Very subtle, but very nice looking. Reflex Racing Houston, TX |

Offline | The part numbers in the UK are : 07 13 7 073 915 x 4 07 13 1 480 419 x 18 Should be the same in the US I imagine. Replaced the side skirts on my Cooper with the S type and you really need new clips as it is neigh on impossible to get th old ones off with out breaking them. Gordo |
