Offline | First (and last for a while) silver carbon fiber scoop! We just finished this scoop a few days ago after 4 or 5 rejects. The silver material (texalium) is difficult to work with, and there aren't a lot of companies that sell the material in pre-preg form (which is what we use in an autoclave) because the aluminum detaches from the fabric. This scoop is going out to a customer, and we won't be making any more until we find a suitable pre-preg material. Just wanted to share the pics because I am really proud of this piece. I spent a good 30 minutes wet sanding it after we had it mostly done. Same pic, hi res ![]() |

Offline | Hey, I'm working from home today in prep for a meeting w/a MINI parts distributor - but I'll get your USPS tracking number tonight/tomorrow. As far as one of a kind, I think it's safe to say you'll be the only guy in the world (If not one of the very very few) with a silver carbon hood scoop for a WHILE. -Dan |

Offline | Nice work. Very nice looking piece. We used to call that stuff "SSG - silver surface graphite" in the R/C car biz. The aluminum surface coating supposedly helps prevent UV degradation and delamination. While the delamination issue may not be a problem for a non-load-bearing piece like this, it will definitely help prevent discoloration over years of sunlight exposure. Reflex Racing Houston, TX |
