| heterochromic & loving it | Just a quick thought on that, my '77 MGB is a rubber bumper model, and the black urethane of the bumpers oxidizes and fades to a nasty looking dull matte gray pretty easily. All the buffing, spraying, armor-all, etc. necessary to make them a nice shiny black would take ages, and they stayed nice and shiny for about 14 minutes. Add to that the fact that the silicone additives in armor-all type products are horrible for things like urethane, pvc, vinyl, etc. The solution I stumbled onto when I had the car resprayed a couple years back was to paint them. I told the guy I wanted a way to keep them a deep dark black but not flat like a BBQ grille, and he said he had just the thing. He used a paint which uses nylon (pretty sure that's what it was) as a key chemical additive, which makes it so the bumpers can still flex and rebound with out cracking or chipping the paint. It will be three years this summer and not a single chip. Plus I simply wax them with the rest of the car to keep them polished. Before: ![]() After: So the moral of this long wandering story is that there are paints out there which are up to the task of being durable, flexible, and chip-resistant. -Ricardo |

| heterochromic & loving it | Hard to really say what it cost, in the end it was mixed in with the respraying the whole car. Off the top of my head, I think when I asked him to do the bumpers he said it would be about $200 including prep and painting. As for the shine, I do believe they could be done as shiny or matte as you like, I wanted something only semi-shiny because a truly reflective "wet look" shine would look a bit too out of place on the bumpers of a '77 B. -Ricardo |

| MINI2 Master BLASTER!!!!! | Thanks man I wanna make them semi shiny now come to think of it. Have you seen that indi blue Mini Cooper with those really cool big white alloys? Its in the desktop section in the goodies part of MINI2, the arches look semi shiny on that, compared to the normal matte finish. Once again thanks |

| heterochromic & loving it | Re: Nice pics MGB Boy Thanks Gooner, it's been a multi-year labor of love (although sometimes it felt more like labor and less like love). I've got an absurd number of photos of the whole process under the "MG Section" on my homepage (www.killersheep.com ). The 77 'B was a lighthearted lark which has bloomed into full-blown obsession -Ricardo |

Offline | Why waste your money on bodykits and "increasing performance"?? At the end of the day, its just some company or individual making money of a senseless desire... a car gets you from A - B simple! Dont follow the mind-frame of a CHAV by ruining an incredible design (MINI), BMW have spent years perfecting the design.. Millions invested into research and development... and you think your gonna improve it by adding an £800 cheap tacky (Lets be honest) looking bodykit? The main reason people by MINI's is of their iconic look... if you dont like it... then maybe the car just isnt for you... The only bodykit that even comes close to matching the high standards of MINI is the aero one.... even still, its money wasted... your on a road not a damn race track. |

Offline | He certainly made an impressive entrance! He has a point though. Why not buy a car with more power and different looks for the price of the MINI... like a Scooby, or Evo... nah. I think I'll stick with modding mine, as its cheaper than buying one of those ugly as sin cars, has more style and its a lot more fun. I thought the point of the MINI was having something you could od whatever you liked to as it can be a unique car and can avoid being chavvy. Of course, that doesnt apply to Lambo doors and the Animal body kit. |

| dyno-mite, might not.... | performance wise its the whole point of mini ownership, the ability to blat "superior" sports cars, i liken it to the early mini ads, man walks down street, then slapped round the face with a big wet fish ~~##) the end ![]() as it all stared in the 60's, just faster ![]() ![]() carefree Last edited by alski : Jun 11th, 2008 at 03:51 AM. |
