Unhappy Wing Mirrors

Hello!

Just wondering if anyone out there's tried to remove their wing mirror casings - need help! I popped into my local dealer who said that he's had loads of people come in who've tried it and had to buy new cases as they've broken them whilst trying to remove them. I've got black wing mirrors but I want to respray them to white as I'm going to be moding the roof with some decals soon, so any help would be warmly welcomed.

Cheers,

Bob

Hi Bob, if I remember rightly there was a thread a while ago about removing the wing mirrors with two dessert spoons of all things! From what I understand (I haven't done it myself) there are two catches under the cover, and you can slide the spoons under and pop it off easy enough. It might be worth a search for the thread.

What Decals are you going for on the roof? and what colour/spec is your car? oh and congrats on your first post!

Cheers, I'll have a nosey for the thread! Think I'm gonna be pretty boring with the decals, just a black and white chequered roof, white bonnet stripes too. Got a BLACK Mini ONE a coupla months ago, needs a bit of pampering to get her just right tho!

Thinking of getting her chipped too, 130bhp sounds too tempting, just worried what that'll do to my TLC

Cheers Paul, just checked out the link - very helpful!

Hi Bob and welcome.

I've not attempted casing removal - yet. It's a job for me at the weekend, I'm getting chromed up.

I have seen the inside of a casing however, which has some 4-6 lugs in a couple of rows, none of which are lipped, which suggests to me that they are friction mounted.

You will have to withdraw the originals carefully and horizontally, easing the top and bottom forward equally.

Hope that helps.
