| Man in the know! | Clear Rear lights Hi all, Just a small titbit of info for you all: The clear rear lights are currently on hold in the UK, due to some police forces not being overly keen on them, despite having full TUV approval. Will keep you posted ![]() S |

Offline | I really don't understand this, I'm not a big fan of the White Lights, They look good on a Silver Cooper, but I'm not a big fan of Silver on the Mini anyway, but thats not the point. I don't see why when a car is parked up on the side of the road, why it needs to have red reflectors at the rear of the car? I mean thers NO reflectors on the front, and the white ones are far more visable anyway. So if its not for being parked up it must be for driving. But at night they while driving they light up red, so no ones going to be thinking theres a car in front of them, and theyre no where near as bright as Head lights anyway so even if the Mini driver doesn't have his lights on at night, your surely going to see its the rear of a car not the front. So it must be because during the day you can't see the brake lights as clearly. Well I know thats a load of tosh as I followed Minty to McDonalds at Mallory Park, and I've fllowed Skinny enough times! So will someone please explain why theyre illegal, and I don't mean because theyre not red I mean why them not being red is bad? ![]() |

Offline | While I'm on a rant, stupid question of the week: Police officer talking to my mate (after pulling him over for no reason) while holding his completly valid tax disc although slightly faded "So has it been left in direct sunlight?" "errrrrrr.... its been in my windscreen what do you think?" Needless to say after the run around he's been given about it (apparently they beleived it to be forged so kept hold of it for a week) without going into a long story a complaint about the officer AND his Seargeant has been put forward and dealt with at the moment. ![]() |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | Damo. The reason for the reflectors is so that the car can be seen when parked by traffic approaching it on the same side of the road. Now before you say that there are no reflectors on the front of the car, you've obviously forgotten that the highway code states if you park your car opposing traffic at night, you have to have your side lights on. This is fact! The reason they are red reflectors and you are not allowed white is that UK law states that you must not show a white light at the rear of the vehicle except when reversing where they permit the use of reversing lights. If you had a white reflector they could a: dazzle someone b: someone might mistake them for a reverse light. BTW I've had the clear rear lights with no reflectors on since December '01 with no problems. Even the undercover police officer I raced (well how did I know he was undercover?) didn't mention them. Mind you I think at the time he was more annoyed I'd overtaken him round the outside, at 60mph, on three wheels of the bend off of J7 Westbound on the M4. If anyone knows this junction they'll know what I'm on about. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

Offline | Thanks for clearing it up Ginge, so it IS a load of b*****ks then! I mean why are they road legal WITH the reflectors if thats the law (which is probably why Dumb as Coppers with nothing better to do are causing problems). As for the copper, on a simlar note, it always makes me smile when some faster car than mine (usually BMW 320's or higher) always feel the need to re over take me after I've overtook them on a tight slip road. (M60 CW and CCW onto M602 East bount to name but 2) They always stare at you when they pass as if to say "HA! my cars quicker than yours". But thats the thing, I do 70 round the slip road and stay at that speed (ok maybe a little quicker), they do 40 and then speed up to 90 to catch up! ![]() |

Offline | it sure is - it can also catch you unawares if you're not careful much like the M40/M25 junction - although at that one last week I saw a silver 996 facing the way he'd come! ![]() 260909 ![]() |

Offline | well my new S won't be fitted with them until such time as they get 'approval' again. Exactly as Minty said - I just got a call from the dealer this morning saying they are forbidden to sell/fit these lights until further notice. 260909 ![]() |

Offline | I think I've asked this before but can't remember the answer, how much are the rear lights with white indicators? And is it true they'll be standard on 04 spec cars? ![]() |
