Offline | Calling all Silver Owners Hello there, I have just placed an order for a Pure Silver/Black Mini Cooper. However, after reading different threads on this board, I have become rather concerned with the "mottle effect" people have experienced on Pure Silver Mini's. Does this problem still exist? Are there any Silver Mini owners who have not experienced this problem? Have BMW have managed to sort out this defect? Hope someone can help Cheers Coopergeezer Chilli Red with White Roof, Chilli Pack, ASC+T, SSP, Climate Control,17" S-Spoke Alloys, Harmon Kardon, CD-Changer, Multi function steering wheel, White Stripes and BMW Aero Kit. |

Offline | My July 2002 ONE does not suffer from this. Might be worthwhile asking your dealer to get onto MINI HQ to ask what the latest is on whether it could still be a problem. Email them a link from MINI2 threads in case they haven't heard of it. Red/Black R56 Cooper |

| Trained Monkey | I don't own a silver MINI, but I've driven and washed a few, and I've not really seen a problem with the silver paint on any of them. Our trials and tribulations living in a "bleeding edge" eco house... Oxley Woods Living |

Offline | Did try and find out more about this from my Dad a while back as he's involved with the panel manufacture, but the paint isn't part of that so drew a blank. Anyway, just so this post isn't completely pointless, my Pure silver One is Nov 2002 and is fine. Over and out ![]() |

Offline | Thanks for the replies. I found out since starting this thread that my brothers housemate works at the plant and works on paint quality control. He has not heard of any issues with silver, but has said that recently they have changed the procedure for quality checking on all paint colours. Hope someone can help Cheers Coopergeezer[/QUOTE Hi Coopergeezer The problem does still exist in this part of the world, all you have to do is walk into a dealer on a sunny day and have a good look at a PS. Some cars here are an older build date so that may explain it. We recently had a run and 7 PS MINI's turned up, all of them had mottle. The problem is very obvious if you have an eye for detail. There is no point in asking MINI if they have solved the problem as they say the mottle meets BMW standards, and yes they admit PS's have mottle. If anyone has connections to people in the paint plant I'd love to talk to them! My PS was so bad I sold it and got a CR/W. ![]() |

Offline | The dealer brought it back off me after I threatened to go to the media and tell them about the poor paint on MINI's We have no lemon laws in this country so it was the only way to get something done. I did try and sell it privately but no one was interested ![]() |

Offline | I have a PS '03 MINI S with the mottle effect it is annoying but the dealer said that is just a thing that happens with all silver BMW's, I find this hard to belive. People spending fourty and fifty large for a car will not accept this defect and niether should we MINI owners. Don't really know what to do. My car was built in March 2003 2003 MCS Pure Silver/Blk. Offline | Tell your dealer he's full of crap! It appears to be one of the standard lies dealers tell people. When they tried to tell me all BMW's had mottle I asked them to park a silver 7 and 5 series next to my car so we could compare them.... they would not do it, because they do not have mottle! If you have a look at an 04 PS MINI it will probably look fine, they had so many complaints I think they have fixed the problem. You have lemon laws... use them ![]() |

Offline | I appreciate you writing, I didn't think anyone was using this thread anymore, the last writings were quite some time ago. I'm not sure i want to reopen this can of worms, my big worry is the mottling will hurt my resale value and that would suck! Without rereading the whole thread, what did your dealer do for you? and how long did you have your car. MIne is 11 months old and nearly 15,000 miles. Thanks, 2003 MCS Pure Silver/Blk.
