Replacement Headlamp Bulbs

Anyone fitted replacement headlamp bulbs to their MINI?
AutoExpress have an article listing the best available.
What they have expressed concern about is that just because well known names supply bulbs as opposed to manufacturing them, it doesn't necessarily follow that the bulbs are any good.
Osram and Philips seem to come out best in their tests for the premium +50% bulbs

I have replaced the full beams (I have Xenons, so the regular headlights are left alone) with Philips Vision Plus and they're MUCH better than the standard full beam halogens.

I have installed the Osram Silverstar bulbs. Their effectiveness is amazing. I have lined up my car agains another MINI with standard bulbs, both have Xenon lights. We were at the 100 meter marker at the end of a local airfield. I could iluminate the runway end marker with no problems were as the other car had to move 30 - 40 meters closer to get the same effect. IMO they are a great bulb and well worth the investment.

Anyone put brighter whiter lights in the aux driving lights to go along with the Philips vision plus for the main beams? If so what bulbs did you use for the aux lights?

TIA

piaa super plasma

I am going to replace my high beams with piaa super plasma GT bulbs. I have them in my jeep right now and they REALLY look like HID, and have fooled many people. Also I will replace my h3 bulbs in my piaa ralley lights with plasma bulbs and I plan to either make my fogs plasma to match my xeon low beams or maybe yellow.

Yeah... I am still thinking about it. If I did make them yellow (the fogs) I would not use them daily. Only for weather like this hurricane thats currently blowing down my house.

wow now thats good service. After reading this & the auto express article i went onto www.powerbulbs.com yesterday & ordered 1 set of the osram silverstars & 1 set of the philips silver vision indicator bulbs. both arrived this morning in the mail, both with a free set of the philips blue vision side light bulbs.

i need to wait till it gets dark to have a proper look but the side lights look much whiter with the indicator bulbs & blue side lights in & the light is really white - i never realised how yellow the standard fit ones were.

since i only got 1 set of the osram silver stars i put them in the dipped headlight socket, figuring i use them much more than full beam. i might get another pair though seeing as postage is free

The standard MINI lights are poo (xenons coming on the new one), i bought some Philips Vision Plus from www.powerbulbs.com (and got some white side lights for free and highly recomend them as got them within 48hrs) that improved the dipped beam dramatically. Was going to buy another set for Full beam but ordered new car so just going to put the existing pair in the Full beam on the Xenon'd car.

Yes, it's powerbulbs I used for the FAQ on changing out your lights and they're very good indeed.

Question fogs

What size bulb goes in the fog lights and are they hard to change? I have decided to go with the PIAA H7 Plasma Spark Blue (looks like 7500k hid) bulbs for my high (full) beams and PIAA H3 Super Plasma bulbs for my PIAA ralley lights. I like PIAA always great quality. Yeah yeah, rice rice

Yep to change the fog lights you gotta take the bumper off, which is easy enough if a little daunting at first.

As for what type of bulb, theres some debate weather they're H7's or H11's. I think the earlier mini's have H7's but the newer ones have H11's. Which is a right pain! Anyway you'll have to fond out what yours are as a guy from the US who had a HID conversion for ALL his lights (you guys have to much money) had to have someone convert the H11 to H7 to fit it.
