I think WD40 is good at taking off decal adhesive... I haven't tried it myself, but I'm sure I remember reading it somewhere. If not, something like Goof Off should take off any residue. Just remember to wax afterwards!

No need to worry, mate. My MCS had factory stripes for 8 months. I took them off myself, and there's no sign at all that they were ever there. I didn't need to apply heat, I just left the car out in the Arizona sun for a few hours (it was 105 degrees). They peeled right off. Relax.

Thanks Lefty...that's really great to hear. Going to have to find something else to worry about I guess
What if our MINI is lost at sea or something...has anyone else heard those pirate rumors??
Cheers, Sharkey

PS. Hi everybody, Mrs. Sharkey here...now you see what I have to live with He's like an expectant father, I swear. Thanks to all for talking him down off the proverbial ledge (OK, so maybe we're both a little wacky!)

But doesnt it depend on the type of stripes you have?

I heard that the aftermarket ones are much easier to remove than the Mini ones - i mean, just look at the price difference! - the glue on the MINI ones is much stronger and is designed so that moisture underneath will not get trapped and consiquently, damage your paint. As a result, there is a much tighter bond between the glue and the bonnet so removal maybe bloody difficult

I can just picture the scene ......

Wait, when was your MINI built? I think a couple months back they started painting on the bonnet stripes instead of the old style adhesive ones, if thats the case, you're **** outta luck! Sorry to break it to you, they'll probably have to respray the bonnet, my guess is the paint won't match exactly and you'll never be able to live with your Picaso'd MINI, sorry!

Just kidding...

But here are some things to thing about, what if while heating the bonnet it loses its shape from the heat and becomes disfigured. What if the heat peels off the paint in the process... all these are possibilities! That's gotta get your blood pumping pretty good!

LOL! Just relax, the dealer will do a wonderful job!

What if the heat from the gun warms up the dashboard and all the internal plastics and melts them - so that when you get in the car to drive home, by the time you are back they will have gone cold and hard again and your locked in the car for the rest of your life??!?!?

This is why chosey choosers chose chewy163

Nevertheless, gentlemen, while I do appreciate your comments and advice, I have to admit that I find the previously concocted scenarios somewhat far fetched, for the simple reason that they are all based on the very dubious premise that we will actually receive our new MINI.

Of more immediate and pressing urgency is the very real possibility that at this very moment Captain Morgan or some such swashbuckling *** of the seven seas is at the wheel of our MINI, scuffing the panther black leatherette with is peg leg and quite likely scratching the paint and fragile chome ring of the MFSW with his prosthetic hook, not to mention the associated damange caused by parrot droppings on the as yet unwaxed delicate factory finish! What if our MINI is made to walk the plank? Would the airbags be enough to keep it afloat until help arrived? And even if it is rescued, what kind of damage would the salt water do to the electrics...not to mention the accelerated corrosion.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Would this kind of water damage be covered under the rust perforation warranty? Can anyone else confirm the rumored alliance between Wallenius Wilhelmsen and Captain Hook?

Yeah, yeah. Sure, I know what you're all thinking..."Pirates?". Well my naive friends, allow me to share a little tidbit I heard the other day round the water cooler. Apparently pirates are all over the place, working over helpless software companies and music industry labels. Think about it: if someone is going to pirate Garth Brooks CD's, what the heck is stopping them from swiping something of actual value, like our MINIs!! Now who's crazy? Yeah, thought so
