Offline | Fitting s spoiler... help anyone? Hi all. Is there anyone here with any tips for fitting the s spoiler? I'm fitting it to my mini ONE which doesn't have any mounting holes. Removing the two plastic covers inside the boot I can see that there is only one skin of metal that I have to drill through so it shouldn't be too difficult. I have never drilled into a car before so any tips on how to do this without drawing all over my paintwork with a drill bit? My other main question at the moment is about where exactly to drill.... is anyone able to tell me where the bolt from there existing S spoiler sits in relation to the hole inside of the boot, is it dead centre? Also should I just drill a hole that is the exact size to allow the thread through or make it a bit bigger to allow for error? Sorry for all the Q's. Any input appreciated. Jonathan ![]() |

Offline | I recently fitted a cooper spoiler to a one d and found the same thing, but it's very easy to resolve. What I did was to use a 3/8 drive socket I think it was probably about 13mm or so. Basically this will fit snuggly into the double skin of the boot where the gromits are ( try different sizes if it not 13mm) once you get this U can then drill straight through the centre of the socket which will be as near on centre as U are going to get! U can drill the hole a couple of mm bigger than needed to aline the spoiler Last edited by ONED : Oct 4th, 2003 at 05:17 PM. |

Offline | Thanks for the rapid response ONED. You make it sound easy. I'm glad you can drill from inside as otherwise finding the right position would have been a nightmare. I would have gone to a bodyshop but the one I went to wanted £160 for the job if I provided all the parts Jonathan ![]() |

Offline | I have all the bits and bobs needed to do the job and intend to have a go on Saturday. With the fitting kit, I got a bottle of cleaner but the instructions weren't included even though it says on the can 'observe product data sheet and material data sheet'. Does anyone know how to use this stuff effectively and safely? I think it's called or made by SIKA, and it has various hazard warnings on it. Thanks, Jonathan |

Offline | All done! and it looks great. I know the S spoiler isn't everyones cup of tea but I'm really pleased and think it adds greatly to the look of the mini. I'll try to post some pics at the weekend. Oned, the socket tip worked really well. Whilst it didn't guide the drill in any way it game me a much smaller circle to aim at the centre of.
