Anyone De-Badged their Cooper

This has probably been mentioned alot of times but searches just throw up finalising orders etc.

Has anyone manually debadged their Cooper after buying it ?

Debadging? Jeez, how 20th century!

I did it to my Toyoter convertible pickup back in the 80's. Frenched the door handles too so the doors would only open with the lock clicker. Lotsa fun watching people trying to get in and finally realizing there were no door handles!

My Cooper was de-badged this week

The tailgate had to be re-spayed thanks to the thumb print in the paint (if any MINI paint people are reading this you should be ashamed!) They could not supply a Cooper badge and I'm still waiting but I think I like it better without it...

There have been a few who have debadged their MINI's, though for the life of my I cannot figure out why.

I can

The rear looks neater without the badge and it's a pain to clean in between all those letters.

I was never a fan of de-badging but I do think my MINI looks cool with a clean bum.

KenL is right, I will not miss trying to get the crap out of the O's in Cooper

mine has been debadged from the dealer -and i still don't know why, cause i told him only to remove the year and the city from the licence plate- and... yes i think it looks nice and clear w/o badge...
initially i was a bit angry because the 'common world' never knew that mine's a cooper but... who cares! i like it bettter now!

P.S. Kenl, do you really clan in between your car's badge?!?!? is this the reason you didn't buy a cooper???
only kidding! (but please answer no!!!!)

Maybe we should start another thread... "Do you clean inside the O's in your Cooper badge?"

or is there one already??

Chris,
What is it about you, Minis and Paint I thought that your experence with Spotty would have tought you to check you paint more carefully

Looks good.

I find that claybar works really well with the O's. or final inspection spray

Leave it clean bum I think

Make sure you get your badge though. You can change your mind any time that way.

I kinda like the debadged look. Think I know what I'll be doing tomorrow morning!

I'm assuming the badge is just stuck on with that foam sticky tape stuff? If thats the case a little warm water from the kettle (no, not that hot or boiling) should strip it right off.

There's been a thread on this before. I think one method was to use a piece of strong thread, and use a gentle "sawing" motion, between the badge and mini's bum.

Okay, if your only talking that one badge, I guess its okay. However when one mentions debadging I usually think of removing ALL of the badges and symbols of the manufacturer. Which IMO is wrong on a MINI (obviously since I've added the logo in a total of 8 more places so far, not including the one permanently inked into my arm )

Waxed dental floss.
You want the temps to be warm.
A hair drying will help a lot. Warm water is not that great since just runs off and will actually cool quicker then heating it with warm air.
Just get it warm to the touch and give it time to heat soak through the badge, not just surface heated. You'll feel the tape get pliable when you try to run the floss behind the badge.
If you've had it on for a while expect there to be a slight color difference as well. Wash and then claybar off the dirt ridge that's left and then wax away.

Just removal of the Cooper badge for me; the others are staying put. Of course, the only other badge any self respecying MINI needs is a mini2.com sticker

Mine's now in place (thanks Paul), less the 'www.' (thats the geek in me, can't be doing with www prefixes!)

Ever wondered why MINI showrooms have spotlights, down-lights, fluros and multi color neon lights? Makes it very hard to see the faults in the paint....

You have probably never noticed the dark bands in your drivers door

If you look hard enough you will find faults in most MINI's, their paint shop is hopeless.

If I ever get another MINI I'd like to order it unpainted and get it done properly somewhere else
