So, You have to Pass some kind of Observation Test to become a Moderator?

A Stencil-type Layer was applied to the underside of the Lens.

Er, this is genius. If, well, a little pointless. But I love it!

is it legal?

If horse racing is the sport of Kings, should drag racing be the sport of Queens?

1/ --Quite Tricky
2/ --Special Sticky Stuff
3/ --As far as I know .. Yes {at least in the UK}

I`ll do a full write up Tomorrow.
In the meantime, Here`s a nice Pic of it in Darkness.

Process Steps

While checking out a Company who could do some Graphics for me:- STRIPEMASTER, (they also produced the Shropshire Run Stickers for me), I saw this idea they had done to one of their own Fiats Stop Lights & thought the process would look good if applied to my MINI.
The Fiats light was mounted Behind the Glass of the rear window and the "Mask" was sandwiched inbetween the Glass & LED Housing, making it a relatively simple operation to do.
As the MINI`s Central Stop light is a seperate Entity, it must be handled in a different way.

Remove the High Level Stop-Light Unit as shown in the pics below, & described HERE
Now the tricky bit:-
The Red lens is bonded onto the Black LED housing & I couldnt manage to prise the 2 apart, So I had to resort to cutting open the Lens Housing on its inner edge with a sharp knife although using a "Dremmel" type portable hand cutter would probably have been an easier method. The Lens was given to the people at Stripemaster who produced, cut & applied the inner Mask. It was then just a matter of sealing the Mask and surrounding trim with a Black Mastic paste, & then reattatching the LED Housing with Glue & mastic.

Stripemaster say that it might be possible to produce an "Outer" Mask for the Lens and apply it in the same way as they apply their tinted window film. This would maybe even do away with the need to remove the light unit in the first place.
I`m going to see if a colleague who just picked up his brand new MCS on Friday can be persuaded to be the Guinee Pig for this.
Watch this Space

I`ve been checking out the Legallity of it today, & according the the UK`s REGULATIONS governing Stop Lights, it would appear to be OK, as;-
1/ .... There is no requirement for a minimum size of the illuminated area
2/ ...."in the case of a stop lamp fitted to a motor vehicle not being a motor bicycle, first used on or after 1st April 1991 either centrally or in such a manner as to project light through the rear window the intensity of the light emitted to the rear of the vehicle shall be not less than 20 candelas and not more than 60 candelas when measured from directly behind the centre of the lamp in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle."

Now where`s that Candela conversion chart gone to ???
