Offline | Seeking window tint advice Delivery of DS/DS MCS expected in next week or so and having dealer tint the windows. Options are Solar Guard metallized film or Llumar platinum. Thoughts on which would look better? What level of tint is reasonable w/o going too dark? (do not want black limo tint effect) Thanks - |

Offline | i have 20% all around. its not too dark, just perfect. cops dont harass me, though in CA front tints are illegal. look at your state laws to see what law applies to you. 35% all around is what i was going to get, my other cars have that. but i think its a bit too light. from now on 20% for me. also the reason i didnt do the back 3 windows is because i think it looks stupid, personally. i like the car to have uniformity. if you have a black roof i recommend 20% all around. however if you are REALLY worried about cops 35% all around is good deal. any other questions, ask me hope i helped ![]() 2003 CR MCS and 2007 CR MCS (on order) |

Offline | A friend of a friend of mine had 15% all the way around his car (not a MINI) and he was pulled over last week for his tint. He was issued a citation and told to have it removed. Yikes! |

Offline | doug from mightyminiz has 5% all the way around. i think 20% all the way around is the darkest one can legibly go... just my opinion. anything under that is way too dark 2003 CR MCS and 2007 CR MCS (on order) |

Offline | my point is whatever you do, just do it uniformally for the best look. i think anything higher than 35% (i have seen 50% on minis)..dont have the intended effect of privacy/cooler in summer then again this is just my opinion. my lithmus test: if people can see you picking your nose while driving, your tint is TOO LIGHT! 2003 CR MCS and 2007 CR MCS (on order) |

Offline | Thanks for the input Does anyone have pics of 35% or greater for reference? I'm in TX; it's my understanding 35% is the legal limit - I agree w/ other's advice that it would be best to keep consistent front to back. |

Offline | different tint levels front to back okay As a practical matter, its just fine to have different tint levels front and back... look at any recent sport utility, from Ford to Lexus, and thats how they do it. We used Llumar Platinum on our 996 Turbo and X5. 35% front sides, 20% rear and rear sides. The MCS goes in next week for the same. I might even go darker for the rear window because of the glare from following headlights that always seem to be right at mirror level. The X5 did three years, 48000 miles with no tint peeling or any problems at all. The Llumar professional stuff is first-rate. The Llumar you buy in the local discount or auto parts store is not as good. |

Offline | true. however practically and good looks dont go hand in hand. if we were all concerned about practicality, we could all be driving hondas. (not bashing hondas, i currently own two) yes my cousin has a navigator, and it is my opinion, that his tint looked stupid. 4 hours after he bought it, he took it to the tint shop to get it uniformed. jblow--look in the gallery..MANY pics of light tint ![]() 2003 CR MCS and 2007 CR MCS (on order) |
