taillights w/ clear (not amber) turn signal only?

anyone know where to find the taillights w/ clear (not amber) turn signals? the rest of the taillight is unchanged (red stays red, etc...) not the Altezza lights.

They are official MINI accessories and I know you can buy them in the UK & Europe from MINI dealers.

I know in the UK there have been a few problems with the police and BMW have put the original clear lights on hold, and maybe bringing out some new ones but don't know when this will be or what they look like. My advice is to ask around at some of the mini spares & parts companies to see if they have any left in stock.

Not these ones, these only have a white indicator lens area, nothing the rest is red. The problem is with the all clear rear lenses.

Yep, they're for sale in dealers in this country. I'd be surprised if they weren't available from dealers in the US too.

I have them on my CR/W Cooper and they look really good on my colour scheme.

This is from StevePSB's gallery, not the best picture quality but it gives you an idea.

Must get another rear shot taken... I've had the white 3rd brake light (part of the red/white rear lamp set) fitted since that picture was taken.

Don't imagine I'll get such a beautiful day to take it as the picture above until well into next year though!

I got my red/white rear lights from CTD in Germany and just tried to install them. Easy until I attempted to change the standard clear bulb to the coated amber bulb ( PY21)from power bulbs.com. The bulbs are different! Same size, but the pins on the clear bulb are 180 degrees apart (P21) and about 150 degrees on the PY21. Anyone know how to get this to work? I followed another long thred on this forum about these lights and no mention about a bulb incompatibility problem. My 2003 Cooper is US, is this the problem? Thanks for any ideas.

Are the new bulb holders the same as the old ones???

If so just use the old bulb holders with amber bulbs in.

bulb solution

The tail lights from CTD did not come with a new bulb holder. They may not make amber P21W bulbs. My seventeen year old solved my problem. I just filed down one of the pins on the amber Silver Vision PY21W bulbs and they fit. Everything works! I really like the look of the red/white lights on my pepper white.

I just got mine...however I can't figure out how to remove the stock taillights without breaking anything! I can't seem to get my fingers to bend so I can squeeze those two outermost clips on the inside! It's so tight in there and I don't mean that literally.

I also took the liberty of replacing all four of my brake/parking lights with a set of wide angle LED bulbs. They look awesome!

See this link with detailed instructions on removal:
http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...&highlight=ctd

You don't really need to touch the clips. Just push or pull out the assembly after detaching the bulb holder and unscrewing the wing nut. The clips will pop out. When replacing, tighten the screw down and you may hear the clips pop back in. If not, pushe with some force from the outside against the assembly until a snap (one for each) is heard. I was worried about pushing so hard I would break the plastic so used my open hand.

Wide angle LED? What's that? Do I have a new project?

Thanks shredder for the tips! I'll try it out tomorrow when it's light outside. I didn't think that it'd be possible to get the tailights out of there without having to do something with those two clips.

The LED project that I did was to replace all my brake/parking lights including the ones for the rear fog lights which I wired as extra brake lights instead. The upper ones are single filament 1156 wide angle bulbs and the lower one are dual filament 1157 wide angle bulbs. By wide angle I mean that it can be seen up to approximately 100 degrees from side to side. The older LED bulbs that I had were directional meaning that they could only be seen from the mostly the rear. I should also point out that I bought these bulbs from www.myroadster.net/led.asp for $11.50 each. Not a bad savings especially since those bulbs last virtually forever.

A friend has agreed to let me show his video http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/vids/rear_lamps.rm which should illustrate how quickly a LED bulb lights up compared to regular bulbs. This is on his ML320 though.

Here are a few pictures...

I remember now. You do need to press on the clip to release it. It wasn't that difficult. I looked at my new light to figure out where the clip was supposed to be. It may be more difficult if you have the HK stereo upgrade since some of it may be in the way. I have the factory sound without amplifier. (though I am planning to upgrade the speakers.)

Thanks for the info on the wide angle LED's, I may have to try it. I think I'm becoming a bulbaholic.
