Lightbulb Wire Mesh Headlight Covers/Stone Guards?

Hello,

Has anyone out there thought about having some wire mesh headlight stone guards made for their MINI Cooper? Do they already exist?

Several other cars use them, currently alot of Jeep 4x4's, and many many old vintage rally race cars use them, such as Porsches, old MINI's, etc.

I'd imagine at least one or two holes would need to be drilled to hold them in place, but if they look good enough, that's not a problem, especially since a hole in the bonnet is better than a broken Xenon headlight on my 03 MINI type-S.

Please get back to me if you have any information.
Thank you!
Happy Motoring,
RRW

(for a small picture of what I'm referring to, a link is below. this is for a Jeep, and is the only picture I could find)

This question has been brought up before with no one finding such an animal. They were prevalent in the "old" days because virtually everyone had the same headlights. Now, it probably wouldn't be profitable to mass produce them to fit all the various shaped headlights out there. They are, afterall a low demand item.

The plus side is that they did a bang-up job keeping rocks of more than 3/8" in size from getting to your lights.

The down side is anything smaller either hit them or had a chance to do so. This meant you still had your lights sandblasted and nicked up by the stuff flying around. They also would actually reduce your lights output by 20 to 25% because of the heavy wire mesh.

I would suggest you look into the protective film put out by 3M and others. Major rocks may still damage the lights, but at least they'll be protected from smaller stuff.
