Chrome mirror covers

I've just ordered a pair of chrome mirror covers.
Question is there a technique to removing the originals without any damage ?
Do they prise off easily or can anyone give us a clue.
Thanks Dave.

It's been discussed on here a few times, a search for mirror* remov* should find the information you need.

That's should not will!

I used a coin for a little bit of leverage then prised them off with my fingers. They are simply held on with clips
Would have checked here first but got them for a christmas present and couldn't wait to get them on!!
... also saved my girlfriend paying the £35 the dealer wanted to fit them !!!

The OEM version simply snaps into place using molded in (on the cover side) male snaps. One way to remove them is to pry the cover from the frame from the bottom using a taped up screw driver or similar object. The new ones should slide right on...unless you got the aftermarket ones which have a double stick tape, in which case, sorry. I had a set and returned them propmtly, they don't fit right and the gap around the cover varies a bit...kinda nasty looking. Hope you got the OEM version, they look and fit perfect!

Do a search under my username (Ginge) in the test forum and mirror. I did a FAQ for this but it never got moved to the FAQ section

Mr.FAQ (MINIAC) hasn't been around much lately due to personal commitments, I'm sure it's on his list!

I wrote it a long, long time ago and I've just realised that the test forum doesn't go back long enough now to allow me to find it

Hard plastic filler spreaders.

I take cars (mainly interiors) apart and put 'em back together *undamaged* in a very short space of time for a living..!!
We have worked with lots of well known tool companies and ended up using these plastic filler spreaders. They are GREAT for easing plastic items off the fixings without causing any damage. The other thing we use is a sort of long thin plastic wedge, a bit like half a door stop. If you've got something similer, try that.

Hope that helps. I used both items of kit on my girlfriends cooper mirror cover swap and she would have cut my b*lls off if I damaged anything & I survivied intact..!!!

Good luck, don't rush it.
Nige.

EB/W Cooper S, leather, 16" x-lites, climate, sunroof, heated seats, MFSW, Alpine CD. Whalen Shifter, Bonnet stripes, tints all round. Normally to be found in the outside lane of the M20.

A couple of slender screw drivers and work from the glass side, move the electric mirror towards the interior & U will now have a gap at the outside. Look in here and lift up the Tabs one at a time while gently pulling out the cover!
