MINI Roof Rack maintenance question.

Fellow Rackers:
I took delivery of my MC last August and have never removed the Dealer-installed Roof Rack. It doesn't make any noise, that I've noticed, and has been handy for impromptu errands. Manufacturer probably recommends keeping the thing off when not in use, but that has always been tough to predict, except for longer trips.
I'm looking for feedback on the negatives of keeping MINI-Rack on permanently. What are the drawbacks for MINI-antlers year-round.
