Lighting question

I'm not gettin the car for another 2 - 3 weeks, but decided to order some lights and bulbs yesterday. Lexus style chrome tail lights and, normal clear side repeaters with chrome bulbs, and chrome bulbs for the front indicators. Does anyone know if I'll be able to install these myself? I just don't know too much about these things!

If you're half way mechanically inclined it shouldn't be a problem doing the installs yourself.

everything should be fairly easy to install except for the rear tail lights, here's what you should do with your lexus/altezza/euro/ricer lights. Open up the trunk, you'll find the compartment on the sides where you will be able to access the stock tail lights, put your new aftermarket rice lights into your trunk, close the trunk get in the car and drive to the largest body of water near your city. Go back to your trunk and take out your new rice lights, throw them on the ground. Continue this throwing on the ground process until they are into tiny bits, take all of those bits and throw them into the large body of water. Get in your car, drive off and never think about being a ricer again.

You should have no problem with the lights. They will look good with your colors. 'Rice' refers to the nasty looking Japanese cars we have on this side. Usually way overdone with the nastiest of color combos, excessive trim and lighting, and horrid sounds from inside as well as outside. Yes, Lexus is included in the rice pot. Save the bits you are replacing; you may wish to switch things around now and then.
Enjoy.

Ok, I was worried there for a minute! No, I'm keepin it pretty simple, we have well over modified cars here too, but not minis. I wouldn't do it either!

Whats ugly is ugly, no matter where it is!! We call them "Muppet mobiles" and simply "Boy/Girl racers" Luckily they usually just do it to cheap cars 1 litres etc, because insurance is so expensive over here, but still occasionally you'll see something that was once a car, and feel quite sad

Well, sorry if I've offended Mini Lou or anyone else.

But i'm sure the lot of us all feel the same way when it comes to those "lexus" tail lights. They don't belong on our cars. For one thing, they originally come from the Lexus IS300/Toyota Altezza, hence its name, "Altezza lights", which is japanese, and we shouldn't be putting them on our European cars. They are completely overdone. So many people with "modded" cars have them and are just a played out fad. From neons to trucks, civics to SUVs, they're all there. We don't need them on our MINIs.

The term "rice", "ricer" or "rice boy", originates from the tuners of sport compact world. Coined from the japanese import scene and the relation to oriental and rice, and the excessive, unecessary modifications done on cars. "They look fast, but don't go fast." Excecessive body kits, large chrome wheels, flashy lights and apalling paintjobs, they all fall under that "ricer" category. Originally a japanese import thing, has now spilled over into North American autos as well. If you'd like more info try these links:

http://www.riceboypage.com/
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ricer
http://www.goingfaster.com/spo/you_m..._ricer_if.html

If you ask me, they cheapen your car, and should never find its way onto any MINI.

Hi All,

I didn't fit the rear lights myself though they aren't that difficult if you know what you're doing. The Chrome Side Vents and indicators are a doddle.

Incidentally theres pics of my mods here.

Best Wishes

Pat

This is possibly a bit late but just saw your post now

These are in my gallery too but here's some shots

BTW, no offence taken on the above posts either. I really love my car and how I've personalised it, and I think it's kinda subtle. Anywho it's only me who has to drive it.
