| M5 Extraordinare! | LED Brake lights and Fog lights? Anyone have anything good or bad to say about them? Anyone have them? I want to order some for my MINI... I believe the rear brake lights uses the 1157 and the Fogs uses the 1156. I have my rear fogs hooked up as brake lights also. http://www.myroadster.net/led.asp |

Offline | I want them as well. Has anyone ordered them? Are they a direct fit? I read that you may have to also install an additional load resister, as the LED draw is so much less than the incandescent draw, that the car may think that the bulb is out. 2004 Dark Silver S Sport Pack, Premium Pack, Winter Pack, Navi |

| M5 Extraordinare! | Well I spoke with atomic80 about this and he has them and said they work fine... theres no need for a load equalizer since the MINI computer doesnt care if the brake lights are out or not. and they are a direct fit... just a simple swap. I'll be ordering them within this week or so I believe... unless someone else says otherwise... |

Offline | You might want to look at these postings. The link on BruceK's posting has some photo's of before and after on a bike light but obviously would be similar to on a mini: www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15638&highlight=led+brake This was from over a year ago so don't know if things have changed since then. | I picked up the newer generation wide angle LED bulbs in both 1157 and 1156. I replaced my stock bulbs with the 1157 dual filament types and put the 1156's in the upper portion using them as extra brake lights. Since the MINI onboard computer does not tell you if the bulbs are out, it was possible for me to use these 4 LED bulbs without the use of the load equaliser. I tried an amber 1156 bulb wide angle in the turn signals and they started blinking rapidly. I'd need to put the load equaliser in there to fix that. I just haven't gotten around to doing that yet. With the wide angle LED bulbs, you're able to see these bulbs from the sides. They were about $9 bucks each from myroadster.net. A great price! ![]() |

| i'm the dude! | I had them in my old car which was a 93 Honda Civic. They worked nicely. The entire back of the car was LED. Kinda got expensive though, but thats ok. As soon as I get my Mini, which will be in about 3 days, i'll try posting pics. What is pretty cool though is that the mini uses the same size bulbs as the civic, so i don't need to buy any more .The plan is to do the back, along with the sidemarkers and maybe the front blinkers if the bulbs i have are bright enough. I used www.superbrightleds.com for the lighting. Works for the people in the US but i'm not sure about overseas. -Brandon |

| i'm the dude! | This is what the LEDs looked like on my old car (93 Honda Civic). I was very bored one night and decided to shoot this. The front lights were normal light bulbs but the entire back of the car were the led type. You can see the delay between the led and the normal lights. Right Click and save as... When i sold the car, i just took out the bulbs and plan to put those in the Mini as soon as i get it. I'm hoping for Saturday to go pick it up. |

| i'm the dude! | Doing the blinkers isn't all that expensive. Each load resistor was $4.95, and since i only did the back of the car, it was $10 for the two. I bought some other things too so the $5 shipping charge was well spent ![]() And for those of you that have the clear tails, there is no color to the bulbs until they turn on. Makes the car look very clean rather than having those funky looking sylvania bulbs that they include. What i did with my old car was before i had the amber led bulbs, i had red led bulbs. When they turned on, they were just as bright, but they were red rather than amber. I had lots of people wondering how i did that, cause normal red bulbs just make it an orange color. I got to see my car today. Just arrived. Scheduled to pick it up at 2 on Saturday Woooo! I will shoot plenty of video for a before and after when i finally get to put them in and post as soon as i can ![]() -Brandon |

| M5 Extraordinare! | Ya i know they equalizers arnt that much but they add up each bulb is $12 and then add the extra $7 for the equalizers makes $38 and thats only for the blinkers and then I'm changing the rear fogs and the rear brakes so that itself is $48 Cool cant wait to see your pics and vid on the LED blinkers... you might beat me to them... I'm waiting for a rebate check to come in before getting the LED bulbs hehe ![]() |

| i'm the dude! | this is what the reverse lights looked like on the my old car. They are white leds ![]() The picture below is another shot, but mainly shows the lights around the license plate. They aren't as blue as they look in the picture. More of a pure white with a hint of blue. Last edited by stellardude : Apr 17th, 2004 at 06:07 AM. |

| i'm the dude! | Just got in from fitting the LED tails... I put the bulbs in, they worked great, instant on/off. The thing i noticed though after i shut the car off was kind of interesting though. The LED's were barely lit, but they were on still. The polarities are correct cause you can only put the bulb in one way. No idea what is going on here. Does your car do that Atomic80? Thanks for any info. |
