United-Kingdom Bulbs for clear rear lights

Hi all, i bought a set of clear rear lenses from a mini2er, one prob is that right hand brake light does not work. I dont want to buy all 3 bulbs again from BMW so does anyone know where i can buy an individual bulb? I like the sheen that those oily looking ones produce so i would quite like a direct replacement. I intend to desolder the old one and solder the new bulb in if a can find one?
Thanks in advance
Dale

I bought the red/white tail lights and it came with a blue-orange turn signal.

I went to my dealer to buy 2 orange bulbs. They are not too expensive... It came to a great total of 5$ with taxes...

I went to mini dealership today and it turns out they do sell the oily looking bulbs, yey!!
I then find out however that they only sell indicator lights and fog lights, no brake lights! Great logic............... anyway i asked what i could do and they said i would have to buy all three bulbs on the circuit board thing, price £41!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Obviously i didnt buy them for that price so i am still waiting..............

The bulbs are made by Osram called diadem but AFAIK you cannot buy the brake light separately. They only sell them to BMW specifically for use on the clear rear lights for the MINI. Searched on the web and could find nothing either. I'm just gonna send a mail to Osram...

OK i have some answers!!!!
Osram, the maker of the bulbs has emailed me back saying that i should contact www.startledrabbit.com as they stock all osram car lights. Soooooo I searched on their website and still no joy............
So i rang them. The helpful assistant told me that the reason the brake light bulbs do not get sold separately is that they have not been passed by the EU and are still in the process (the fog light and indicator bulbs however have been passed and that is why they are sold separately). This explains why the bulbs are soldered in.
The good news however is that the bulbs should be cleared by the EU some time in May and thus will be sold separately by BMW mini dealerships.
Case solved!

Hmm. So therefore the lights are illegal.

I find this a bit suspicious personally that BMW would supply a product that is not legal. Besides which the lights have been available since 2001 so that is a heck of a long time for EU approval don't you think?

Not doubting what you say but I'll wait to see what Osrams Technical Department say. If we get the same back from them then it will confirm what you say.

I find that suprising too that BMW would supply an unroadworthy product. EU can however take a very long time to approve such things, especially with regards to road safety.

Yeah but as you buy the Light Assemby as a whole, and that is EU approved then that would cover the bits of it. So that would make em legal.

I rang them back and spoke to a different guy and he had the same story. If this is so, they should be available in a month or so.

Anyone tried to get hold of the individual Osram bulbs recently? This thread went cold earlier this year when EU approval was imminent, apparently.

I've got a pair of clear lenses and just need some appropriate bulbs, preferably the official OSRAM ones if possible as they give off the blue tinge, which would go nicely with my
