England Spot Lights On Cooper S

Just after some general information regarding Driving Lamps (spots light)
I brought my MCS without driving lamps but have decided to add them.

To buy them from BMW dealer is £145.00 ....not bad, but for a dealership to supply and fit them is £500. I have to wonder how much effort has to go into justifying £355 to fit them !!

Has anyone installed spots themselves and how easy is it to do? Does it affect your warranty if you fit them yourself ?

The warranty is the issue here - & some dealers are abusing that situation by charging silly prices cos people are scared to go elsewhere.

I also baulked at the cost of the BMW items... I went for the MiniSport items instead. Way cheaper overall, and you get four lamps (rather than two!) - I fitted them myself. Afterwards, I now prefer the MiniSport ones to the factory fit items.

I participated in this thread:
http://www.mini2.com/forum/exterior/53545-4-lamp-works-style-spots.html

...including a brief note on fitting, and a pic of the lights fitted.

If you are happy tinkering and pulling bits off your MINI, then they're fairly easy to fit, if a little time consuming.

As for warranty - my dealer is fairly friendly and hasn't raised any issues with my mods (exhaust, K&N, spot lights, Sparco race seats, white lights), and even whipped out one of the Sparco's to change a faulty pretensioner. However, YMMV, and some dealers are fussier than others. Personally, I don't see how BMW/dealer could claim that the aftermarket spots were bad, unless they can prove it caused damage (e.g. say, your bad wiring melted the loom)

HTH,

-Lee

You are being SCREWED try another dealer
My first set cost £ 285 supplied and fitted to car when new
Second set cost £ 225 supplied and fitted by dealer

Sounds to me your dealer does not really want the work Mind you at THOSE labour prices he probably doesn`t need to much

Labour for fiitting according to BMW is 2.5hrs thats a whopping £142per hour

Here in the States, the lights he's talking about are driving lights. Spotlights are the things that police cars have mounted near their front windows that can be aimed from the driver's and passenger's seats.

I want these too - the dealer items blow me away in price though. $1560 or so for a 4 kit. $761 for 2...

Yikes!

Totally unjustifiable in my opinion, but what do you do?

It seems that the driving lights are called different things all over the world. A bit like the hand-brake
