Offline | Paintwork 4 days to go until my cooper arrives!! Have bought all the parts for the cooper S fuel cap but being a clumsy f***, was going to cover the surrounding area with masking tape. Is there any problem with sticking masking tape on to the the new paint? Car left the factory yesterday and plan is to do this tuesday so there will be 8 days for the paint to cure/settle down if it needs it. Also am going to supagard the paintwork. Do I do this before or after I do the fuel cap if I use masking tape? Dink Dank Doo! |

Offline | Depends how strong the tape was I guess! As long as the paint was dry when it was applied, it should be fine. - Global Moderator - MY BLOG - Global Procrastinator - ![]() ... Buying the 8C for its dynamic abilities is like buying a porn film for its plot ... |

Offline | Cheers Scotty B, extremely nervous about replacing the filler cap with the car being only a few days old but a few people on here seem to have done it without too many problems so fingers crossed. Dink Dank Doo! |

Offline | Thanks for the reply but I've already sprayed the trim ring. The tape was to protect the car body work whilst levering out the old mechanism. Also I looked at getting the cool new kit but it was £64 with vat excluding p+p unpainted. Got the parts from my mini dealer for £45!? Can of paint £10, bargain of £55 all in. Dink Dank Doo! |

| AWOL | Although your only just collecting your car, by the time it was finished was Inspected, shipped etc etc the paint will be fine.... make sure you use a quality masking tape, no cheap stuff and you'll be fine. you also wont need to press it down too hard as your not looking for a paint tight seal, just a sctrach protector.... Hope it goes ok, just remember to take your time.... |
