Offline | Sorry, this won't help answer your question, but I'm curious as to why you'd want to remove all the standard chrome?! Personally, I feel that all the aftermarket chrome parts are over the top, but the standard chrome is what gives the MINI its character! |

Offline | The back lights are replaced with a projector type light where instead of white or chrome...its black. They suit the car as the car is solid gold. Iv only been using this forum a day and dont know how to post pictures. All im asking for is advice on how to dechrome the rim of the front lights and the coachwork bead around the car below the winows. I beleive paint will eventualy peel of chrome...So is there anything i can do to maybe strip the chrome? |

Offline | "Chrome" can be stripped off of plastic by using a strong alkali agent. EZ-Off will do it. That's a trick I picked up from building model cars. BE WARNED! The part must be disassembled and OFF the car before you try this. It'll destroy paint and about everything else it touches. Rawhyde |

| MINI2 Regular | This may be slightly off-topic, but I'm thinking about blacking out all my chrome too. Not every single thing like you, i'll leave the headlights and around the windows, but I want to change the bumper inserts, door handles and the piece over the license tag to black. (I have a regular cooper.) I've already had the chrome grill changed out to the black aero grill. I think it will look really cool contrasting with the pepper white. After reading these posts, I'm afraid to have the chrome parts painted if it's going to peel.... ![]() |

| MINI2 Newbie | Hi Everyone, (My first post on Mini2). Iv'e got a 05 model Black Mini One and am also thinking of de-chroming some parts in preparation for an Aero Kit install. The headlight surrounds can be painted, (See www.R53.com then go to the color coding link for some pics), they will also quote to do the work. It is suggested that an acidic primer before re-painting is used to give a better adhesion and stop the paint falling off... they can also paint the Chrome "waist band" below the windows for £50-£100. Haven't used that company myself, but at least you know it can be done.. On the same subject, does anyone know if the Chrome boot lip cover (above the rear number plate) comes off, and if so where I can get a colour coded black one to replace it? (Can do a swap for my chrome one if anyones interested?) Cheers, Sten ![]() |
