White Rear Lights

Picked up my new MC on saturday and was told as we were walking to the car (not happy they left it until the last minute) that they are unable to fit the white rear lights anymore?? I'd specced the full white lights with the red reflectors in the bumper but they've fitted the rear clusters with the red lights but white indicators!!

Now I think they actually look ok but they aren't what I ordered! I just wanted to check what the consensus of opinion was - has anyone else specced the full white lights and been given these??

Rumour has it that the full white lights weren't totally legal because they actually had white reflectors on the back of the car which worse than no red reflectors??

I would appreciate any views on this

Thanks

Jonathan

The white lights were withdrawn from sale for a few months whilst their legality was looked into.
About 2 or 3 months ago they were offered for sale again - the kit now includes the reflectors as standard in the UK.

Anyway, the long and short of it is that they are fully available again.

Thanks for confirming that! That was what I'd heard when I ordered the car back in March but the dealer thought differently now!

The question now is do I like the ones they've given me (need tp check they haven't overcharged me as well actually!) or do I push for the white lights with the bumper reflectors (these are the only bits I don't like but probably put up with if I could have the white lights!)

Thanks for your help Steve.

My local dealer won't fit white rear lights on MINIs as they told me Herts Police made an official complaint to MINI forcing them to withdraw them...

You're right BuzzBomb, they were withdrawn (for several months) because of a police complaint. They have been put back up for sale in the UK with the reflectors as an integral part of the purchase, whereas before the reflectors were seperate.

Basically, it means MINI can say 'we supplied the customer the lights and reflectors' if the car is stopped by the police with no reflectors fitted.

They're £195.00 including the VAT.

Going slightly off topic but would there be any difference in price between buying + fitting for the white lights and the reflectors versus the red light with the white indicator?? Without the fitting of the reflectors, the red lights would be cheaper??

Without being at work to check it, I think the red/white lamps are a little cheaper than the white kit anyway. The fitting of the red/white lamps would be a lot more straight forward than the white plus reflectors.

Oh now you've got me thinking! This would mean I could have the white lights without those stupid reflectors (I know they would be illegal but don't care!) but how would we sort this is out if I agreed?? You're in Glasgow and I'm in Oxford??

I was told today that they have again discontinued the White lights again?

One of mine is corroded on the inside and I want a replacement under warranty.

You've heard wrong there.

Possibly someone getting the fact they won't work with the 2005 spec onward cars mixed up.

Part number - MINI0142223 without aero kit.
Part number - MINI0142518 with aero kit.

The part numbers have to be ordered as an enhanced kit, which hopefully will make sense to your dealer.
This is official information taken from MINI internal bulletin MINI-04-ACC-0224.
