Offline | Please Help!!!!!!!! Please please I need help!!! As a way of "compensation " for messing me around with my mini ( to long a story to tell ), JCT offered to put on white viper stripes. OH MY GOD!!! they sent the car out to have the viper stripes on and it has come back and looks absolutley dreadfull!!! they have completely messed it up ( Each of the 2 stripes along the roof has been made using not 1 piece but 2 pieces badly joined, does not run completey over the bonnet etc etc. When I complained they informed me that to do the roof stripes they had to use 2 pieces as BMW did not produce a longer length, which I find v hard to believe PLEASE Please can someone tell me that this is wrong... I look for advice |

Offline | If it is any help, the usual method for removing self adhesive vinyl is to heat it up with a hot air paint stripper (honestly!) until the vinyl is throughly warmed. (Done correctly it won't burn the paint as the metal dissipates the heat much more rapidly than wood). You need to do it about 8" square at a time. The vinyl then peals off easily. There should be no reason to have to join stripes as any vinyl sign producer should be able to produce whatever length you need, to order. I can see no reason to have to source anything from BMW! The sign producer should then have the skill to place the stripes correctly. When I last did it, the vinyl was submerged in a bucket of strong detergent solution and then applied to the bodywork. As soon at the vinyl is slid into place the water is then driven out by pressure from above, usually by something like a rubber wiper blade. Amazingly the vinyl then sticks perfectly, in the correct position, without any air bubbles or creases! I wouldn't beleive it until the first time I did it. I don't know if this answers the question, but please let me know if it helps. |
