Took my car to the garage to get 2 new front tyres. The company ordered 2 new Pirell Run Flats and fitted one fine and dandy. The second one caused a load of problems and it turns out, was faulty. Another was ordered and fitted no problems. However, while trying to fit the faulty tyre the mechanic managed to take a huge chunk out of my alloy (Sillver 17") right the way round the edge, then, tried to cover it up with grease! Needless to say.. i was pis*ed off!

They said that they would pay to have it 'done up' - my question is, has anyone had any scratches removed from their alloy wheel? If so, whats invovled in the procedure and what does the end result look like?

I know people that have taken wheels to be reparied and have had pretty good luck. The best one came from a shop who sends you a brand new wheel of the same type in exchange for your damaged one (with a small fee of course). I'll try and find the link for you.

Personally, if it was me, i would insist that they returned the wheels in new condition.

I work at a garage (car sales) we reguarly have alloys repaired, everything ranging from a Totoya Celica wheel, to a AMG chrome edged 18" jobby.

I have seen mixed results between repair companies, 95% of the wheels are repaired fine, theres no obvious sign that its been damaged and repaired.

However the paint finish can often be very bad, ranging all the way from a Matt finish thats impossible to clean, to shiny paint that shows signs of dripping around the edge.

Saying that, the vast majoirty of the time they come back looking like new.

If i remember correctly, they wash the wheel in a deep detergent. Then sand the damaged area right back, fill it, sand it down using wet and dry paper to get a perfect finish, they then spray, laquer it and put it in the oven.

Watch your tyres, i have seen a good job spoiled when they get paint all over the tyres. I have sat on the fourcourt removing paint using glue/tar remover for well over 2 hours and still not being satisfied with the result.
