Offline | Those driving lights.. I got hold of the accessories catalogue recently, I like the driving lights, but looking at the PIAA site noticed they look very similar.. Anyone know who makes the Mini driving lights? I think $700 fitted (AUS$..) seems a tad expensive.. Thanks |

Offline | If anyone has actually DIY fitted these lamps i'd be interested to hear. Its the type of thing i've done several times in the past but its always good to hear from other people too. Any more info from the PIAA site? Could you give me the web site reference please. |

Offline | My dealer told me that they were £350 GBP fitted or I can buy a DIY kit for £145. No-one could tell me why it took two hundred quids worth of time to fit them as the kit was quite simple..... Am still pondering as to what to do. I don't want to waste £200 but on the other hand, I'm not a BMW technician and don't want to destroy the wiring (and warranty) on my car. hmmm Sold MINI, Bought Volvo V40 TD. I Feel Dirty! |

Offline | I have bought and fitted the kit myself and its certainly not simple. Took ne half a day, so this would explain why the dealers charge so much. You have to make a connection into BC1. This is the Body ECU that eveyone is always talking about. It sits in the drivers foot well, so you have to remove the interior sill kick panel. To get that out you have to remove the drivers seat. Then, you have to fit an auxiliary fuse box next to the ABS unit, and feed the wiring up to behind the grill. Then you have to drill holes in the bonnet interior skin and rivet the mounting brackets in. Then you fit the lights, but you have to go back to the dealer to get the whole thing "enabled" using the diagnostic system (MODIC). Finally you have to get them aligned, soething any MOT place can do for you. Not for the feint heated then. Then you can say to your mates, " had to take the seats out to fit those" and they will think you are barking mad ![]() If anybody is interested I am willing fit them to your car for beer money, but you will have to go to a dealer to get it enabled. FYI I live near Woking in Surrey. Chris ![]() You gotta drive it like you stole it!! |

Online | This DIY installation sounds like a good topic for a FAQ. Should you (or anyone) do this again, please take some digital pictures of the process and write it up. Thanks ![]() ![]() |

Offline | Space-cadet, any chance of posting a photo of the underbonnet installation showing where the brackets are mounted. ELISEBOY, do you remember where those installation photos are posted? |

Offline | Might be worth considering those Stainless steel cable covers. Either the spring type ones or the braided ones. Pretty sure you would be able to get small diameter ones to protect the plastic cabling. ![]() |

Offline | Driving lamps are part of my S spec. U.S. price in accessory catalog is $400-, dealer charges $295- for labor (shop rate is $85 per hour). I understand they have to be fully wired, not factory pre-wired. Too bad they aren't on a toggle switch to fill in that blank space on the bank of switches It's awfully expensive but if you order the accessories when you order your car they become included in the 3 year warranty.
