Offline | Mini Pinstripe--subtle but effective As any who frequent this and other Mini forums know there are innumerable bold graphic solutions to personalizing the Mini's bod. Some more successful than others, but nonetheless fun and personal. And, while I must admit having considered any number of different racing stripes and the like, I haven't really felt all that comfortable with them, for me. So, after pondering this question for better than a year, it finally dawned on me that perhaps a pinstripe might be a good solution. Problem was, with virtually no horizontal creases or fender lines, where do you put one where it doesn't look "wrong" (as a graphic designer, I am pretty anal about these kinds of details). In any event, I settled on the area along the top of the door as a nice, natural line that follows the form of the car very nicely. I added a warm red double-stripe that picks up the other subtle red details of the "S" and goes quite well with the Dark Silver paint. I ended the stripe by bringing the two stripes together in a point, just forward of the front doors. All-in-all the addition took about 1-1.5 hours, and the stripe kit cost about $7. One thing I also like about the look/location is that it accentuates the horizontal lines of the car making it look sleeker. A simple, effective mod for those less daring. Cheers, GG |

Offline | R.E. other color cars/stripes I think the look would work fine for a number of the other colors as well. Obviously not red in all cases (which works best on darker, neutral colors), but I think as long as the color compliments the body color and has some character it would have essentially the same effect. The colored tapes are cheap enough you could almost buy two or three if you wanted to test them out. Happy striping.... GG |
