Offline | Angel Eyes driving lights: rice or nice? ![]() http://www.hella.com/produktion/Opti...Model_2500.jsp I've got these (they were cheap) but haven't gone through the motions of uninstalling my PIAA driving lights and putting these on. The installation will not be as nice as the vehicle specific PIAAs were. If I do install the Angel Eyes, I'll use the brackets from the PIAAs to mount them. I'm pretty sure the Hella's are more show than go, especially at the price they are (around 50$, without brackets). So, should I go for it? Here's a photo (not mine) of some installed: ![]() |

Offline | Angel eyes are associated with BMW so they can't be rice. Difficult to tell from a single picture but they look fairly bright. If they have soft lighting then they are nice. ![]() Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs |

Offline | The eye part is soft lighting and are quite nice. To me with the black backing and how they are shaped. It would seem they need to be counter sunked to have a proper appearence. Again that IMHO. I was looking into them myself (still am) on having them replace the stock fog lights as well as having two more mounted in the lower grill. 02 MCS DS/W (Totaled November 02 on Fall Folage Run) 03 MCS DS/W (See my MINI Profie for extensive list of mods) |

| MINI2 Master | They look cool in times like that photo, but for normal driving everyday they would look out of place. Sorry, have to vote rice. Unless you hook the angel eyes to their own switch, and only use them in cases such as that. Same goes with driving with just fog lights. ![]() |

Offline | I wouldn't call them rice, but they're definitely not nice either. As Mugami mentioned they might do all right inserted into the bumper, but the design doesn't look so hot in a stand alone application. Bottom line though, it's your car. If they move you, then do it. -- '03 S B/W |

Offline | As far as where to buy... since one of you who asked is in Canada, the other is in the UK, and I am in the US, you're on your own... start at www.hella.com and find a dealer locator thingy for you country (if there is one, there is for US). As far as wiring them up... anything is possible. ![]() I haven't done mine yet. The wiring included with them has a three position switch. Obviously, one of the positions is "off". It's a fair assumption that one of the positions is "angel eye rings only". The thrid position? Could be driving lights and rings, could be just driving lights. If you wire them up as the instructions tell you to, it looks like you can put the switch in any of the three positions independent of what other lights are on. That means you can turn on your driving lights with no other lights on at all. In fact, I think you'd be able to accidently leave them on as you took the key out of the ignition and retired for the night, to awaken to a dead battery. Pretty dumb design, if you ask me. My current plan is to keep the wiring from the PIAA lights installed, and splice into those wires to connect the Hella driving lights. That way, I keep the better PIAA switch. Then, I'd tap into the parking lights for the rings... Of course the leads are different between the Hellas and the PIAAs so I cannot just swap the lamps. Or, I might not install them at all. I haven't decided yet. |
