Offline | Cooper S exhaust trim replacement. This has been asked before but never really answered. Is it possible to buy aftermarket exhaust trim for the Cooper S instead of a whole system? Not "just measure it and see what you can find" but proper bolt on replacement tailpipe trim. There must be a ready market for people who want to change these. Help! |

Offline | Fitting a new tailpipe trim on the 'S' isn't as easy as getting one from the local exhaust shop as there is not enough straight length to work with. My local 'Muffler Man' said he would have to cut both pipes near the silencer and weld a single, 'one into two' pipe on as replacement. 1. Expensive 2. Complex and with room for problems. 3. Any suggestions. 4. I can't believe no-one makes an 'S' specific replacement. 5. Help! |

| Boy who made the wolf cry | Do you want to get rid of the "beer can" look? If so, your local exhaust guys should be able to remove the tip and replace it with new ones. I know of one or two cars in Australia thayt have done this... I was going to do it in due time also, as I'm not a fan of the standard tips. Todd PROJECT POLARIS - Die Wiedergeburt eines kultautos |

Offline | Todd, did you know that it really was drinks cans that the design was taken from. Apparently the clay model was finished but muffler 'tips' had been forgotten so they cut down two cans and pushed them on, showed the model to the design bosses and it was signed off! Yes I want to change these 'tips', they're a bit (whisper it) girly. A pair of M3 style tips would do the job nicely. I think the existing exhaust (not tips) points downwards until the very end hence the splayed flange fitting of the existing tips, climb under and you'll see what I mean and understand why an off the shelf after market tip won't fit. I've asked this question 3 times on here and people are either happy with the 'beer can tips' or don't mind paying for a complete system, as I've never had much info back. I would be keen to know about these people who've had tips fitted already though. Can you find out more? |

| Boy who made the wolf cry | I did know that. I picked up a cheap soft cover book from the local bookshop a little while back - very interesting read!! I tried to call my mate here with the exhaust tips, but I couldnt get a hold of him cause he was in a movie - but I know he put different tips on the standard exhausts... he has straight cut - similar to JCW's slash cut... Also a friend of my dads - his daughter reversed him MCS into a rock and smashed the exhaust tip off, so he got them replaced with some slash cut styled exhaust tips... so it can obviously be done - how is now the questions!! I want to get it done too... just some nice stainless tips, same size as JCW - but straight cut... it will look great with my aero back!! Todd PROJECT POLARIS - Die Wiedergeburt eines kultautos |

Offline | Todd, you're a scholar and a gentleman who understands the finer aspects of design. Straight cut rather than slash, similar bore to JCW. Simple, unfussy and with a solid 'engineered' feel. Although an M3's (current model) are slightly staggered (a lovely subtle touch) the design, minus the stagger, is exactly what I'm after, I'm sure you understand. Whenever you get hold of your friend, or anyone who's had tips replaced I'd appreciate any info you get. |
