| MINI2 Newbie | Mirror Chrome Stripes OK, I know this might be stretching things a wee bit, but has anyone had any experience with mirror chrome stripes? Do you have any pictures? I have tried to research FAQ and Galleries to no avail. Internet searches tell me it is available and can be done, but with some downside, i.e.: shorter stripe life-span. I'm waiting for an all black MCS and I had this vision of chrome on black. Too much? Maybe, but you only go around once in life. Thanks for your assistance. Regards, Rich ![]() |

Offline | Don't use chrome vinyl on you paintwork. The Chrome is a brushed polyester film, and has an outdoor life expectancy of only 3 months. This film is non conformable, and would be almost impossible to apply around the front of the MCS bonnet. Not only that, the adhesive used on this range of materials, regardless of brand is a permanent acrylic, and will bond into the paintwork, leaving you with an embossed area on your paintwork. There is no way this can be polished out, and would require a respray to rectify. I know all this from 15 years experience in the manufacture of vehicle graphics. And I have seen the nasty results of chrome film on car paintwork... Try 3M 680C reflective instead...in white or for the more subtle look go for reflective black...I kid you not...it reflects back dusky silver at night, and during the day as the light catches it, you get a dark metallic grey reflection. |

Offline | Maybe, but it might not conform round the curve of the bonnet and also would be prone to getting nicked. One way round it is to fit normal vinyl stripes with the chrome on top. You could then have it like the original stripes with the black or white edging. |
