Wow, that is a striking effect. Not subtle at all (I thought it would be, since the car is dark).

Firstly, I like it a lot. I also know you knew a guy... I'd hate to think what this would cost your average Joe.

Aren't the wheel arches textured? How'd you get your's glossy smooth? What kind of prep and primer was necessary for them to hold the paint?

I think (please don't take this as an insult) that the body coloured wheel arches make the wheels look smaller... I know most people love huge wheels, but bear with me a second - I think it makes the car look more like an original Mini.

Anyways, slick job. If I had the resources to do it, I would seriously consider this for my red S. I don't - I'm more of a buy it stock, keep it stock kind of guy. I wouldn't want to copy you either. The MINI turns heads everywhere it goes, now you'll be turning the heads of MINI drivers too!

Just looking at the Pics again. Did you get the side-vents (repeaters) painted too? One angle looks like you did, the rest, not so much.

Looks AWESOME, looking forward to hearing what you used as a primer as I've always heard (my dad owns a BMW repair shop with many body shops around the neighborhood, so these people have a good idea) that it's hard to get the primer/paint to stick to the plastic, and that it won't last more than a couple of years (which isn't a big deal, cause you just get it redone) but is this the case? are you just sacrificing that versus making you car look bad-@ss. I've been tinkering with the idea of doing it when i get my pure silver S. Just not sure yet, but your pics make a STRONG argument for it!

Love the paint job. Really makes it look more beefy as well. Just added some white 17's to it and presto.

I agree, I thought it made the wheels look smaller. Didn't like it when I first saw the pictures on CMT's computer, but at home it looks really good.

I was going to say maybe it would look better with bigger wheels, and someone has done it. It would look sweet on 17's.

I'd also thought of maybe doing this in the future, but having black paint, and the cost, it's probably never likely to happen. If I get a Cooper S in that Dark Silver though, THEN i'll probably get the dealer to do it and get the cost with the finance.

Looks smart!

Love it... Suits the car better than std black IMO. IB always looks sensational & this just improves it

This should be standard issue or a NCO, BMW!

Thanks for sharing pics ADO15. Your paint buddy did a great job

Cooper S, Jet Black w/ white roof, silver 16" X-Lite wheels, DSC, MFSW, dark tinted windows

This is a really good look. Agree it should be standard. The texturd surfaces are a good deal and we used to do this to old Mini airdams, rockers and the forward facing parts of the flares with a product called "Rocker Shultz". When you get a rock chip you can paint it in with an artist's brush and it dissapears, whereas on a smooth surface it stands out. PLEASE answer the post above and tell us copycats how the prep and primer were done. Biggest problem with this car is it does't belong to me. Truely jealous.

Smile Thanks :)

Thank you all for the nice comments... and especially Jayomatic for the artwork... You conviced of what size of wheels to get

As for the paint-job / Primer etc. - I have no idea as I just delivered it to the paintshop next door.

Noahe,

Your eyes are good - those side-vents have indeed been spayed blue too... All I'm waiting for now is the white side-repeaters to arrive. Those will be the only lamps I'll change though, as I for one think rear-lights look better being red..

As for wheel/tires,

Ezrally, these are my studless winter-tires... I've not been able to decid what wheels to get for my summer-tires yet - hence I still got those on.. (They are going back to the dealer aswell... I ordered white wheels but got silver ones when I picked the car up.. so now they will have to change 'em.)

Speaking of wheels... I'm really really considering putting on a set of these:

What do you guys think?

(Right now I'm "stuck" between those Technomagnesios or the 17" "S-lites" from Mini.)

Another optoin I have considered is to get some 16"Speedline wheels and then lower the car some 30mm...

or this:

Comments/advices apprechiated.

(Psst! alexcroft, it didnt cost me more than £12 )

Go for the 17's

Ado,

£12 i hear you say! you have done so well!!

Wicked paint job again, go for a set of white 17's all the ones you posted are great, even the 16's with the dropped suspension would look great! Make sure you get some calliper paint from Halfords and paint your brake callipers blue. That will look the dogs doo dars!

I cant wait to get my cooper arches painted body colour, then the hamann wheels and kit in this pic, i cant wait.

i think i am going to paint my callipers white with a black design. they will look brilliant when you can see the calliper throught the wheel spokes!!

good luck ado, keep us posted with pics!

later,

alex.

brake dust...

Monsta/Ado,

If you make sure the area round your calliper is completely clear of dust, oil, grease and if you properly mask off any seals this will have a great finished affect.

I have seen a 911 with white callipers and a white Evo 7 with white callipers on grey wheels. Although the mini is no 911 nor Evo 7, it will still look great!

The caliper paint is availble from Halfords for £10, or you could purchase a painting kit from JC Whitney at £11.99:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/

Failing the white...black, red, blue, silver, yellow callipers will look quality.

Ado, keep us upadted with pics.

I'm going for red personally, but what I think he was getting at wasn't the Brake dust before you paint them, but after. I think he was getting at White not being the best colour for showing dirt. White Wheels are bad enough, but Calipers will be black after 2 stops! i maybe wrong tho.

Exclamation

Thanks!

Only problem is that the Speedline rimes are only availible in 16" so the ones you've put on are abit too big...

Can I hassle you for a resize?
