Offline | I fitted my bonnet stripes back in April...what an experience, lol. Firstly I placed the stripes on the bonnet and put small pieces of masking tape to help with positioning. Then sprayed the bonnet and stripes with a water/washing up liquid mix...when you put the stripes on the bonnet the water mix helps you move the stripes about. Next you need to get rid of the water remaining under the stripes - used a cloth and a lot of elbow grease. Stripes looked perfect. Next morning though they had more bubbles than a bar of aero chocolate, I was gutted . I decided to leave the stripes on and see what happened and within a couple of weeks they were perfect! Would I do it again? probably, lol. Good luck, Tink ![]() |

Offline | Hi DCM, The benefit of the soapy water is you can slide the stripes on the bonnet to get the perfect fit. I wasn't brave enough to peel the backing off and just apply them to the bonnet ![]() |

Offline | They are pretty easy if you have them made from the correct material. I manufacture stripes and use 3M Controltac, you can only do them dry because of the curve at the front of the bonnet. The Controltac has small diamond grooves in the adhesive on the back which lets the air escape, so no bubbles. Most sign shops would have this in stock as it is used for printing vehicle wraps more than anything else. You will have no paintwork warranty problems either. I line them up, tack either end with a piece of masking tape, and peel back 10cm of the backing paper...leaving the masking tape in place. With a squeegee, apply pressure in a smooth back and forth motion across the stripe, while slowly pulling the backing paper off from underneth. BOB IS NOW YOU UNCLE...! Job done, but be careful not to crease the stripe as you progress over the bonnet hump... It should take you 15 mins tops... |
