removal of Front Indicator and Fog lights

I'm sure, I'm not the first person to suffer this problem, so I'm looking for a bit of advice...

Some how I've managed to crack the lens of my front indicator light, on-top of that I've also smashed the lens of the fog lamp below said indicator. (Must have been a good shot to smash both lenses without damaging the surrounding body work )

I've done a little search and think you need to remove the front wheel, and the plastic cover under the wheel arch to be able to replace these two lights....... can any one confirm this before I start to dismantle my car, and how much hassle is it in doing it?
Also has any one got an Idea how scary the price of these units are going to be........... I had to replace my door mirror (glass) and cover earlier this year and didn't have much change from £100.00

Any help would be most appreciated
Yours, some one who thought he might have a few quid in his pocket after pay-day this month

Mick

From the amount of replies, it looks like no one has had to change the front fog or indicator lamp units.....

In case any one was interested in the price of these units, I've ordered them and they cost.... £17.71 indicator, £27.95 fog lamp. should get them by Tuesday, wasn't as painful as I expected

If any one does know the correct way to remove these units, I'd appreciate any pointers before I start the job next Saturday

Thanks

Mick

Cracked my o/s/f foglamp lens in January this year. Paid 23.20 inc VAT for replacement foglamp and dealer fitted for 35.20 inc VAT.

I took the route you are considering. Wheel off, wheel arch liner out etc. Found it very difficult to remove broken lamp as couldn't quite see/ have enough space in the wheelarch to do it. Finally got the lamp out and the electrical connections were different (I have an early build ONE specced to look like a COOPER). Phoned dealer. "You need to replace this connector with upgraded..." At this point I got bored. Took it into dealers having removed wheel arch liner. Got car back 1 hour later. All done. Liner replaced, car washed and hoovered.

Someone later told me that if you remove the bumper, it is easy to DIY. Perhaps thats what they did at the dealers.

Dunno if this helps you.

Its not that hard...the turn indicator is actually easily removable with the removal of the front bumper...which again is easy. The foglights can be removed through the wheel well if the wheel well is taken off. There are three screws to undo...then unplug. Insert new one with lense and you're off. If you need more info just let me know...there is a front bumper removal instruction set somewhere online.

Thanks Rally-it,

Had a better look under the bonnet/hood this afternoon and as you say, taking the front bumper off seems to be the way to go.
Found a different thread on the subject, it lead to another web site with instructions and pictures on how to do the job........Looks very, very easy. Here's the web site in case anyone else has the same problem or is interested. www.mini.uglydoris.com

Thanks once again, just hope Saturday is a nice sunny day and not the usual day of rain when I need to do some work outside

And again - I've removed and replaced the front bumper - despite being a DIY moron - and its not difficult. Just make sure you have somewhere flat and dry to do it!

Yes it was very easy, took me about an hour and a half, but now that I've done it once, I could probably do the job in 45 minutes to an hour.

To make things easier I removed the front bumper see www.mini.uglydoris.com and the guide on this web page (including pictures)

You can't actually remove the fog light with out removing/freeing up part of the inner wheel arch, but removing the front bumper really, really helps with seeing what you’re doing.

Next, I turned the wheel so the front of it was sticking out on that side. I didn't jack the car up or remove the wheel. I then removed 4 plastic screws and plugs (the screw is in the centre of the plug) these hold the front of the inner wheel arch cover on, you also have to remove a screw from under the bumper/body lip (front of car) this also holds part of the inner wheel arch on. (All very easy)
I had a 1/4 drive socket set, any bigger and you might have problems getting in the space. put an 8mm socket on an extn bar, a small ratchet and away you go, the fog light is out. It's the same in reverse.

You could complete without removing the front bumper, but it would be by feel (not a very good method)

When complete, don't forget to adjust the fog lamp beam height. Don’t want to blind anyone

Regards

Mick
