Offline | Mini FM Arial - Machining a new one? I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in doing this. I'm going to be machining myself a new arial tomorrow out of stainless steel, and then probarbly powdercoating it black to match the bit it screws into. I've tested if I'll loose reception by replacing the arial with a long screw (approx. the length I'll machine the new one), and couldn't notice any loss - obviously there will be a loss, but I'm prepared to sacrifice a bit of reception so that my Mini doesn't look like a remote control car ![]() I'll obviously post pics when its done, just wondering if anyone else has gone down the DIY route (instead of spending big on a pre-made one) Kev |

Offline | Yeah, but in all honesty I can't see myself driving under anything *that* low! Still tossing up wether I should polish it up nicely (being stainless steel it'd come up very nice), or if I should powder coat it black (luckily, where I work I have access to a powder coating machine, in any colour I like just as long as I like black). If I polished it I think I'd have to do something about the plastic mount too. On another note, my plastic mount seems to be a lad loose - turns very easily. Any idea how I'd tighten it? |

Offline | Time and energy - well lets put it this way, I'm going to be making it at work, with their materials. I'll actually be getting paid to make it in a way :P More of a "see if I can do it", feels much better making your own ![]() |

Offline | Made it today - not 100% on how it looks yet, will have to wait till its powdercoated/on the car to see how I like it (and if I need to make another one that looks better :P) Currently its at my workmates house where he is TIG welding a 4mm screw into the base of it - MUCH easier than putting the thread on myself ![]() |
