Driving lights from helix13.com??

I am interested in the Hella driving lights that are listed on the helix13 site: http://www.helix13.com/products/body.cfm

Has anyone fitted these? What is the quality of their brackets? Any other US suppliers to suggest?

Thanks,

I believe the Helix kit uses the Hella 500's. They are kind of an old design. Hella has since come out with the FF series (free form reflector). The FF lights produce a more even beam pattern and thus improve the amount of useful light.

I have a set of the Hella FF75's on my Jetta. They are a rectangular reflector, and the light output is very nice. There are round versions in the FF series as well.

Of course none of that may be relevant if all you want is looks and don't care about the actual lighting.

Unfortunately, I think we'll have to do with the factory mounts. I just received this from Helix Mini Sports

I'm here to say that the Mini brackets aren't the best mounts for larger lights. I've got 6" (150mm) Cibie's on mine and vibration is kind of an issue with them. I'm currently exploring options and if I come up with something that's feasible, I'll be sure to post it here.

I installed Hella Rally 1000's on my last car and they had a rear brace that connected to or through the grill. It seems to me there is a similar product for the Cibie's, but a quick web search just now didn't turn up anything.

I have not closely examined the factory mounts, but perhaps it is possible to have a local metal shop either stiffen them, or build something similar out of more rigid material. Unless, of course, the problem is what the mounts attach to and not the mounts themselves.
