I observed last week at my Mini Dealer in Calgary a Nav equipped Cooper that no longer had the shark fin antennae (aerial). It looked like a typical stinger antennae with a fatter base. Dealer didn't have much to comment on as they never previously noticed it. Can anyone confirm the change. Sad sad sad. Loved the former look.

yep it has changed, new aerial on my mini d is different

Yep, no more shark fin.

This has been changed by BMW as a cost cutting exercise. Previously Nav equipped cars had to have two seperate aerials, one for the radio and the shark fin for the sat nav.

All '05 cars now have these combined in the 'remote control car' style aerial.

During training at MINI I was told the shark fin was dropped because it was 'too BMW'. Big shame, and one more thing upsetting me when thinking about a new MINI...

Not easily. The new aerials are all in one (nav + radio), so if you took off the new style aerial to fit the shark fin you'd have no radio aerial.

Is there any pics of the new GPS Aerial-Is the base of it alot chunkier?

It looks the same as the normal facelift aerials as far as I am aware.

Hope so, If the base is the GPS antenna then hopefully you will be able to change the aerial for a shorty.
