| MINI2 Senior | Factory aero Kit installation We just finished installing the factory Aero kit. The project was fairly straight forward. However if you do it yourself make sure the dealer gives you a paper copy of the instructions, or a copy of the C/D that has those instructions. The required time was about 2.5 hours for a person familiar with this sort of project, and if you have an average tool selection. The project requires no driling. You are basically unbolting the the front and rear bumper covers, and replacing them with ones that are the aero kit. These estimates do not include paint and prep work. The only down sides to the project was: The front grill on the Cooper "S" has the outside temp sensor, glued into a plastic holder. Rather than break the grill apart to remove it, I just ordered a new sensor. However the new grill did not have a location for this sensor, so we made a small bracket. The original rear skirt right next to the exhaust has a smal support bracket to help stablize the bumper cover in this area. The new bumper rear shirt did not have a fixing location for this bracket, so this for now has no support. (I will make a small bracket) It is a little loose without one. Rear muffler tips, need to be larger. Even if you don't replace the muffler with a performance muffler. After the rear skirt is installed, the original rear chrome tips will now look too small. We installed a new larger tip. to fill the hole better. The side skirts do not have a inset spot for those great loking Cooper "S" stainless entry strips. So we left ours out. I don't know how they would look just glued on top of the sill?? Other than that the quality of the product was great, and the fit was perfect. My suggestion for everyone ding this project, carefully wrap up your original pieces, that way if you go to sell your car, or you crunch the spoiler on the curb, you will have a back up piece. 5 years from now when your Mini is not quite so perfect, and you crunch the spoiler you may just prefer to put the original piece back rather than buy a new spoilerClick here for factory aero kit photos Last edited by Blue Thunder : Aug 4th, 2002 at 10:44 AM. |

Offline | Hi. Any chance of posting some pictures of the finished car? I've never seen any of an S with the aero kit. How different does it look compared with the standard S? Thanks! ![]() |

Offline | any photos ?????? seams strange to fit a new kit to a new car that is nearly 95 % the same why change the rear bumper as it is the same apart from the fact that you would have to cut out the center part of the bumper so the exaust would fit the aero kit is for a cooper the cooper s has larger frount side panles so the bumber would not fit with out modding it in some way im sorry but i think you are telling porkies i could understand fitting the body colour sideskirts but not the rest of the kit spoiler is the same rear bumper is the same front bumber is a bit diffrent but i dont think it would be a fit anyway |

| MINI2 Senior | This is Texas that's long horn country (beef), we don't do any porkies here. Yesterday I was at Texas World Speedway with the car, a friend took a few photos of the car, they are a little dark. But I do have some nice photos that I will post as soon as I get them scanned. The Spoiler kit is quite different than the factory Cooper "S" bumper system, front and rear. Now I'm not sure maybe the cars are delivered differently in England than here in the U.S. I've been around cars for a while and I wouldn't have gone through the motion of mounting the kit, if there was no noticable difference. The kit also includes a black out grill kit. I'll post a Red cooper with the side exhaust opening, and A blue "S" with the center opening. http://www.xk8.net/photos/cars/2002-.../Img_1302.htm:) |

| MINI2 Senior | I have supplied a picture of the rear bumper skirt. I hope you like it but for some reason don't expect you to. It all fit well. No Problems what so ever. I will have more pictures up soon. Al Hafner President of BMP Design / Supersprint North America |

| MINI2 Senior | Mesh insert The mesh insert is actually just a sticker with the kit. I really didn't like that. I was planning to cut it out and use a real mesh, but wasn'r sure at first what I would be exposing under the car. And I'm not so sur eI want to deal with the dirt that would come through ever time it rained. |

| MINI2 Senior | Tail pipe tip The tip you see is a Supersprint, but they don't sell just tips, I'll outfit the car with every tip that will reasonably fit under the skirt, (not all at once)I have about 5 different choices, Then we will have them build the systems with the tips that everyone likes the best, first. If you do a spoiler kit the Bumper is larger and makes the original tips kind of disappear. I have another tip I tried double rectangular they look kind of cool. Blue Thunder got the scare of his life last night. We get severe thunder storms here that sometime end up with hail the size of golf balls, !/2 way home the hail cam down, it sounded like marble hitting the roof from 10,000 feet (I guess thats what it was) We hung a U turn and Blue thunder jammed back to the shop as fast as his little run flats could go. No damage but it sounded like the end. ![]() |

Offline | Blue Thunder, Those are some futuristic looking exhuast tips you have there. Do you know if Supersprint will be making an exhaust system for the MINI? I love the sound of the supersprint system on the M5 (I know of a couple people who also matched it with the SS x-pipe, it's such a roaring beast! ) |

Offline | Retail cost for us non-DIY'ers I really wanted to get the Aero kit on my Cooper, but my dealer was using an external shop from them, and the total cost was going to be around $2250 for the kit, paint, and install. Is that what we can expect to pay nationwide? Also, how much for the Supersprint tip? That is really cool! ![]() Reality is a matter of opinion. |

| MINI2 Senior | Re: Retail cost for us non-DIY'ers The kit sells for $1200.00 there really aren,t any deals. We will sell the kit for about that also. Since we don't do any paint work, I'm stuck paying regular retail on paint. My body shop, painted the front, both sides and rear for about $550.00. Metallic paint is a little more, than solids, and they do have to paint on the black trim around the edges, this is not a moulding it's paint. Figure the average paint to be between $400.00 to $700.00 depending on your area. So based on the math, the labor money we had saved was $500.00. The job took us (2 guys), we have all the tools (doen't really need much in the way of tools, but the lift was handy) 2.5 hours. This is the first time on one of these kits. If you are handy, and like doing this kind of stuff, and don't get ****ed and kick the dog, when it doesn't quite go right. You should be able to do it easily in about 5 hours (this allows for a small kick at the dog) If that's worth $500.00 do it your self. ![]() |

| MINI2 Senior | The SS tip The tips by supersprint will be available only on the exhaust systems, They have never sold tips separately. But be patient, I'll have pictures of all the tip choices soon. And you may like another design better. As soon as I can get my scanner to work, after I kick the dog just one more time. ![]() |
