Bonnet Stripes - easy DIY??

I bought some genuine MINI white stripes for my black MINI. The dealer wont put them on as they said the way jobs are assigned any old technition may get the job who may have not done them before! Is it easy to put them on myself, have you done it? There is nothing about it on the FAQ's.

They were very expensive for a bit of sticky plastic so I dont want to get bubbles in them etc.

Andrew

Hi Andrew,
I fitted my first set myself - the key is to clean the bonnet first then spray a water/fairy liquid mix onto the bonnet and the stripes themselves - allows the stripes to be moved about before settling in their final position! I think I used a bit too much of the water mix though because the following day they had more bubbles than a bar of Aero . But, I left them on and within a couple of weeks they were perfect . Now I've got to do it all again after an argument between my bonnet and a bin .

Good luck!

United-States Stripes are easy.

Andrew, do everything mentioned above. Before you do however, place your stripes out DRY and use a grease pencil to mark your final placement. This way when everything is all slick, you'll be able to line it up perfectly. A VERY EASY JOB! Use a plastic scraper to get rid of air bubbles (scraper usually is supplied but can be bought at Home Depot or any Hardware Store).

Have Fun,

I did the stripes on my 1958 Bugeye.

Easy - But the key to no bubbles is the plastic scraper.

I got mine from TOP Ebay sticker seller and they came with a scraper and instructions for about £5

Actual auction Page

Sellers Ebay Shop to keep an eye on !!!

Sort out the correct way round they are going first!

Mix fairy into a plant sprayer with water and spray bonnet

Peel back and 'float' first stripe into possition

Use scraper to work bubbles out from middle, as you srape the water is forced out and the stripe starts to stick

At first it seemed not to shape to the bonet (I have an S intake) but after scraping it stretched into shape

Take care when scraping! - I wrapped mine in a duster.

Check them out by clicking this......

GOOD LUCK
