Graphics - a possible danger!

Don't be alarmed just yet - but this is what happened to my previous Cooper. When I bought the car (2nd hand) the dealership (not a BMW dealership) had vinyl stripes made up and applied to the car - looked like originals. When I had the bonnet resprayed because of a major stone chip incident - when the stripes were removed, we had discovered that the vinyl (or the glue of the vinyl) had actually eaten into the paint and left a faint line at each end of the stripe (ended up with four of these lines). I don't know if vinyl differ from one make to the other or if the glue they use is pretty much the same. When I asked the bodyshop about this, they said they get this a lot on vehicles with signs or lettering on the side where it has 'eaten' into the paint.

Just a warning... and something to consider.

So is it just an accepted problem, or one that can be avoided by using the "proper" vinyls?

This can all be avoided if the correct materials are used.

There are plenty of reputable companies around, some people only consider the upfront costs, and if they can save a few dollars.

You would never go to a monkey to service your car...

Guess the OP should let BMW it has been seen and not (just) heard.

Thats really interesting different from info I got, because they put this copyright logo in the decal. Which from my information was put in by BMW to stop people using unofficial product.

My advice would be before going ahead is get it in writing, I admit I am sceptical and I hope your info is correct its good news for everyone looking for an individual look. Just never sure about any manufacturer with any unofficial product, tell you one thing to get a car deal then back track if it goes wrong

Once had similar situation with wheels.

Does anyone at the top of mini2 have any connectuions at BMW to get an official postion, as i would love to do something individual.

Like it reads in the post, No problem UNLESS the decal damages the paint.

In other words, it is your choice, they will not be in any way responsible for damage.

Now all you have to do is choose a material they recommend. Or choose a material guaranteed not to damage your paint, and backed up by a 3M warranty...
