Mini decals - opinions please :DIAL UP WARNING

Been toying with going for some sort of '70s JPS style decals on my Black ONE. Would involve getting the wheels powder coated to match unless I got some gold Minilites.

Please excuse the rough and ready Photoshoppery.

PS - My 50th post!

I prefer the one with the bonnet and roof stripes than the one without, the one without does not look right to me, IMHO

Enjoy the MINI, whichever you choose

That is about as 70's as you can get. I like it with the bonnet stripes as well. Very unique. It's surprisingly understated and looks very stylish. Should turn some heads.

I have to agree.

IMHO first picture looks better. Without the bonnet/roof strips it look like it is missing something.

Thinking about it, it looked a bit too saturated in those pics, so I've toned it down a bit. Looks more like the JPS scheme now.

I like the saturated one with the bonnett stripes. Very cool.

I am not much of a picture editor. That looks really time consuming. Is it?

It can be. What I've done is pretty simple stuff really.
I've been doing this kind of thing for a living for ten years - video games artist Mostly specialise in doing 3D work though.

OK, maybe it's a Pond thing... I like the first one best.

However, that said, I DO like them both. Normally, that sort of thing goes right by me. I think your pics are very sharp.

Have you thought about maybe the bonnet stripes off center, like a tad more 1970's GTO-ish?

Either way, you have a great eye. Go for either one, but go fir it!

I like it.

I did something similar for my first red/white S.

I like it, I like it A LOT. As one who is old enough to remember, the JPS livery was far from sublte. It was very bright & metallic.

Go for the full kit. No real point in being subtle, is there?

I prefer the first version when the colour is more saturated, stands out more against the black and the chrome IMHO

When I was in the process of ordering my MCS and keep in mind I am no picture editor i played with the mini design area on their web site in an effort to get just the look you describe with an off center stripe. i just couldn't get it to look right. I think I concluded that you need something with a wider hood. Or I concluded that I was too incompetent to do it. i also played with a strip that starts on the hood and sweeps onto the side but that was really bad. I am definitely not a designer of any kind.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm going to mess about with the design till I'm 100% happy with it (naturally). The main problem has been getting a decent working relationship between the chrome and the metallic gold. The reason why the side and bonnet version works best might be that there is a better balance of the too, or that the gold overpowers the chrome making it stand out less.

I don't want to de-chrome the vehicle, though an Aerokit might help it look a bit better. I'm currently working on a 3D model of a MINI in my spare time, and when it's finished (don't hold your breath!), I'll be using it to test out different schemes!

Yellow Cooper

Looks good with the 'full' strips. The version with just the sill stripes reminds me of the 1275GT stripes. IMO the wheels need to be changed...they are just too 'modern' for the paint scheme. My Cooper came wtih the 8 spoke wheels which are reminiscent of the Minilight wheel. A set of those [in gold] would work pretty well...and would be cheap[ish] I should think [if that matters ]

If it's standard, it isn't mine!

I really like the first one (stripes, saturated). Maybe you could change the colour of the bumper inserts to match, or make them black?
