United-Kingdom driving lamp re-wire tips please

i have on my s the factory driving lamps 4 in total two wired up and 2 not wired as my local dealer said 4 working lights was no go
because they are slowly rusting ive replaced the 2 non working lights with hella lights and i want to do the same to the two others that do work so...
if i disconnect the battery to change the working lamp units over ( im using the existing bmw loom ) will i need to recode the system ?
and if i want to illuminate all 4 lamps off the high beam using my existing bmw loom for 2 lamps and the hella loom for the other2 is this possible and is it safe? bearing in mind like the bmw loom the hella loom is using a 15 amp fuse and a relay.
i understand the wiring diagram for the hella system but if i take the signal from the high beams to power my second set of lights will i overload the sytem

any body with 4 working spots please help otherwise ill have 2 working and 2 dummy lights!!

Hello,

Sorry can't help with the wiring query-But was going to suggest, why not take your Rusty BMW Lamps back to your dealership and get them replaced under warranty?
Also 4 lamps can be wired up by BMW but only certain dealers do it and it may invalidate your electrical warranty.

Im thinking of getting Four Fitted aswell. Off topic but what would you say is the best way of fitting the extra two lights?

United-Kingdom 4 lamps better than two

im wiring 2 lamps of a different style to the factory harness which is already coded so im just swopping over lamp units then im wiring 2 more lamps using their own dedicated harness which is really simple and takes a trigger from the main beams when switched this way i have two harnesses per pair of lights each harness fused and this should keep the electrics safe

but do i need to disconnect the battery terminal in the engine compartment box where the dealership lights take their power from to remove the factory lamps?
if so will my new lamps work or require re code?

I fitted the lamps myself on my old Mini.

If i remember right the brackets can only fit where they are normally positioned. Towards the middle the grille is wider so the bracket wont reach from top to bottem?

United-Kingdom no more rusty lights

i found that these hella kita specify no cooper s probably due to the fact that the battery is in the boot on the s or as i believe the curvature of the bonet is different which requires the bracket to be modified, ive fitted the inside pair of spots not wired up though the outside will be done at the weekend all wired and ready to go as im only using the factory harness to run one pair of lamps i dont see a problem occuring as the other pair has its own harness and is independant of the ecu.
the brackets are going to allow me to space my lights properly ,ie the same distance apart ive found no problem with the spacing

no more rusty lights !!
