How is the quality of the paint from the factory compared to the horrible orange peel that comes from american plants?

a friend of mine who's a panel beater and does lots of show cars was VERY impressed with the quality. Said it was one of the best factory finishes he'd seen in a long time.

Mine had paint 'runs' on the doors, that were corrected under warranty!

Mine was not too good. Scratches and chips very easily after one week of ownership. Am getting the front end resprayed under warranty next week.

I have to say, the paint quality on my January 2004 build MINI One is excellent. When I wash it, I can feel how thick the paint is. It's a pleasure to wash for this reason.

But seriously, it really is a lovely lovely finish.

my car had to have a panel re-spray under warrenty due to a 'halo' in the back quater panel.

I also found the bonnet chiped very easily.

Due to pick up a new mini next month, so will see how that one is.

I would say so-so. I'm sure it's one of the areas where BMW cuts costs. A healthy amount of orange peel.
