Union Jack roof flag coming off. should Mini replace it??

Not sure if anyone else has had this, I know people have said the roof flags have started to peel before and a hairdryer seems to do the trick for most.

However the finish is not what i would call up to scratch on my car, the roof has always been carefully washed, there seems to be in several places a bit of a lip poor cut out finish that sticks up a tiny fraction, well a chunk of this has now ripped off - not due to excesive or over enthusiastic washing, its about the size of a five pence piece and looks like a bird has done its business on the car (little things like this do my head in ). What I really want to know is should Mini be replacing this free of charge/ under warranty (it was fitted by Mini) as the car is just coming upto its 1st birthday I do not think that this is acceptable I am aware they have a shorter life expectancy than the car itself but I can just see them saying its my problem.

Its only the george flag part of the UJ so im willing to just say that as the red cross part of the UJ is poor finish part then I will accept them simply replacing the george flag................ anybody else had this problem or anybody know where I stand/ what the best course of action is???

If its not sorted I will get onto customer services as the gear knob has a chunk of leather missing off - the spot lamps are rusty (I know this is a known problem) the clutch is slipping (had the gearbox replaced at 6k) - its not abused but I am gettiing ready to throw the book at them as they ended up replacing the last car due to 25 faults but I accepted this was a one off Friday night car. Will wait and see what they are willing to do first

sort of know something. If you look at the new full roof UJ (i now have this) and i think silver UJ. The points of the flag have very small radius on to avoid lifting. You wouldn't know if you walked by. My orig 51 plate car had UJ on and i was always catching points and lifting slightly with a sponge.

If you do manage to get a replacement and good luck, sounds like they should be giving you a complete car! Make sure they fit later spec flag.

I had mine replaced by my dealer after about 11 months. Two small tears caused by brushing off the snow and ice. They replaced it without any question

has it been into the dealership recently? mine went in the other week & a couple of days later i noticed a piece of one of my stripes missing - ripped off by over enthusiastic jet washing. soon as i pointed it out to them they put their hands up & agreed to have it repaired.

Apparently all items fitted by your dealer carry a 2yr warranty unless otherwise stated
At least this the way I understood it when I questioned my dealer.

If it has been installed correctly then as long as you are careful how you wash and wax it there is no reason it should lift or tear.

Mine (touch wood) has not been a problem since it was changed

Will have to remember this, I dont think it had a very good finish from the start, I gave it the benifit of the doubt and 1yr down the line and it looks like it wont stand another few months.

lets hope they do what there supposed to and change it, even if its only the red cross

andy, if they won't it might be worth checking a few graphic companies - it might not be that expensive just to redo the george cross.
