Removing Rear Badge

I am thinking about removing the read "ONE" badge from my mini, as I saw one today with no badge and I think it looks alot better, probably because its more symetrical I suppose.

I know its supposedly very easy to remove the rear badge on cars, but just wanted to check a few things - and there is absolutely no info (that I can find) already on the site.
As far as I know, you just heat the badge with a hairdryer and it peels off, simple. Is this the case? The main thing I want to check is that there will be no residue left, because if im going to have horrible little marks on there I may aswell leave it on.

Hi Dan,

it's an easy job. Use the hair drier to heat it up then either pull the letters off (might be a bit of an effort) or saw them off with some dental floss. I used meguiars scratch x and some elbow grease to remove the residue. Take your time, do it properly and you won't be able to tell they were there. Looks much better too

Just my thoughts on it

I've taken badges from dealers off of cars before using the old hair dryer trick and usually had no residue left, if I did I just used 'Goo Off', but a Mini badge..... I'm not sure if there would be any holes behind it or not. But I suppose if you already saw one without the badge you already know if there's a set of holes or not. I would try it with a good hairdryer and then get it squeaky clean using rubbing alcohol or the Goo Off. After doing that you probably would want to wax the area to make sure it has some protection from the elements.

If you do it post some pics and let us see your results!

Edit: just seen onemini's post, so it obviously it doable

I used my hairdryer and a thin flat plastic kitchen spatula with no sharp edges to get the "cooper" off, took about 1/2 a minute, a quick polish and you would never know

I did it to my black '96 Audi in 2001. There was a slight 'ghost' but that can be resolved with rubbing compound and a nice new layer of polish. I like the S on ours, but it did make the audi more symetrical. I like the look.

Thumbs up

@danb: we bought our first MINI Next last year August; a Liquid Yellow Cooper.

I was first registered in April '02. Hence about 2.5 years old. I wanted to have the Cooper logo removed as well, and the dealer did it for me ... with the hair dryer (I actually saw him do it) ... no issue or "ghost".

As I seriously damaged the MINI in an accident we bought the second MINI Next beginning of this year (again LY, this time June '03 registration). Again the dealer removed the Cooper logo, this time with the dental floss method. Again no "ghost".

Just polish after wards and done ...

Emergency procedure: put head between your legs, and kiss your ass goodbye.
