Offline | Head lamp washers - question Anybody have any idea how the frequency of the activation of head lamp washers can be altered? I have an 03 MCS and when the headlights are on and I use the windscreen washers in the slightest the pesky head lamp washers go off as well! (it would be much better if they went off when the control to activate the washers was held back for a couple of seconds or something). This results in the head lamp washer reservoir being empty during one run if the weather conditions call for constant windscreen washing. It is also annoying if you have just washed the car and it gets blasted with washer. I suppose I could just leave the reservoir empty...but then it makes a horrid noise. Any help would be much appreciated. Dave. |

| Dead Man's Curve? Feh. | On my '02 MCS the headlamp washers activate the first time the windshield is washed and then every 3rd (or may be 4th) time after that. They shouldn't activate every time the windshield is washed. Now, having said that, I have noticed on rare occasions that I'll wash the windshield and the headlamp washers do their job and then with the next washing the headlamp washers pop out again. Then it seems to go back to its normal schedue. It's never happened enough to be anything than a curiosity. |

| "Just Like That!" | I too have an 03 MCS and I too get annoyed that the lamp washers empty their tank so quickly. I have noticed though, that if you pull back and then release the washer switch very very quickly, only the screen wash will operate. You will have to develop a more gentle touch !![]() UJ Club: GB064 |

Offline | A little worried now..... I have had my MCS since 10th Dec 04 and despite the London weather I have not needed to fill up my wiper or headlamp washers yet. How long does the water in both last? How do I know (or check) how much water is left in the reservoir. I ask because the bottom of the tank is hidden under the wings so I cannot see. Also, how do I know when the water is finishing? (please, no answers about "no water comes out!") Is there any kind of warning system so you know? When it is finished, does it make a grinding sound, like a pump operating on empty, or is it different? Does it damage the system if you use it with no fluid in the tank? Thanks... |

| "Just Like That!" | When the tanks are empty, the relevant pump is much more audible! As for your question about how long does it last, well, it totally depends on how often you use the washers! My trek in and out of work totals 110 miles of dirty single-lane tracks and a dirty M25, so I may have to use my washers approx 12 times each day...meaning that the lamp washers will run-out approximately every 4/5 days (if I'm lucky) but the screen wash will generally last 10 days. Of course, it will last longer if I don't use the washers, but then it gets very difficult to see out of the windscreen !![]() UJ Club: GB064 |

Offline | Starting with the Jan 2005 builds, I believe that the washer fluid tanks have now had their size increased (I'm not sure how much bigger they are though). There's also a low washer fluid warning light on the wiper on/off stalk now as well. Just an FYI... |
