| 220 of your finest horses | Whilst washing the Superbee this morning (a rare occurance) I noticed that my nearside Dealer fitted driving lamp had a smashed lens. Judging by the amount of muck on the reflector this happened a while ago - possibly on a 200 mile round trip to Cardiff or, more likely, when it was parked over night (lots of building contractors in my street at the moment and their tow hooks are about the right height ).Anyway, I phoned the dealer but being a Sunday, no Parts or Service guys where around. Anyone got any idea as to how much a new lens will cost and how easy they are to install? Having had a quick glance at the lamp, there seems to be just one screw holding the chrome outer ring in place? Cheers S ![]() ![]() Last edited by s_and_m : Feb 20th, 2005 at 07:46 PM. |

| 220 of your finest horses | Ouch Just spoke to the dealer. Apparently you can not simply buy a replacement lens for the driving lamp (part number 63 12 0 137 301). Oh no, you have to buy the entire lamp unit at £79 plus VAT. They reccommend fitting as well. So thats just short of £100 to fix a broken lens! Ouch. Maybe Hella type covers would be a good idea? | 220 of your finest horses | Hmm The pdf download on the Auxillary lamps shows that there should be two MINI branded covers, however the dealer says these were deleted in 2001! So I guess I'll have to scope out ebay for a set of 150mm diameter covers. Car is booked in for Friday @ 13:00 and they reckon it's 15 minutes fitting time. S ![]() ![]() |

Offline | blimey thats costly considering the the size of the unit. i suppose we only can thank BMW for making them from tough plastic not glass. Otherwise they would break much easier... It must have been a fair old impact to break it, hope theres no other marks on the superbees body work aswell.![]() |

Offline | You can still get the black covers - I got some 2 weeks ago from Hexagon mini in North London. They are about a fiver each and came in a week from UK stock. Apparently they are not easy to find on the BMW parts system as they have to select a non convertible US cooper and up they come (never used the system but this was the advice given here on another post and I gave it to them and they managed to get some). I also posted (no replies) about whether anyone knew if any of the garages that had replaced the lights due to the frequently reported "rusty nuts" problem kept the glass as it was presumably only the chrome that was bad - £10 or £20 for second hand glass is better than £100 for a new one. Good luck. |

| 220 of your finest horses | Plastic? My Auxillary driving lamp lenses are glass - are you thinking about the front fogs or have I got the wrong spec units? My dealer happended to have a lamp unit in stock so I presume they must get through a fair few of them (ie they break quite easily) I'll enquire as to covers when I'm there on Friday - was out bid on ebay As for rusty nuts - my brackets a re in a shocking state after only 4 months - something I'll bring up on Friday - and I'll be asking for my smashed unit back to keep as a reflector spare! Offline | I think dealers can do something about the rusty nuts by using a plastic washer and some thread sealant to help isolate the metals.
