Offline | Front and Rear Fog lights Hi all, Couple of quick queries, 1) Are rear fog lights standard on all mini's? Looking at changing the rear lights on my soon to be new car back to the standard bmw ones so that i can smoke them and wanted to ensure that if i bought a set off ebay i wasn't going to be shooting myself in the foot by them not having rear fog capabilities. 2) My new S doesn't have front fogs Trying to get some ideas of prices for getting it fitted by BMW. Will they be able to put a Toggle into the current set or will it require a new set of toggles?? My car has DSC if this makes any difference? They have thus far only given my a price for the part as they were very vague about if it would need any extra parts? Just want an idea of what it will 'actually' cost me before i show up to collect it and realise BMW have rinsed me by suddenly needing extra parts!Cheers |

| 05 MCS BEP | I just tried to have a rear foglight fitted on my 05 MCS and was told it was going to cost me even though the switch is already there. The rear foglights are optional. The cars built after Jan 05 are prewired. Before that, I am told they are not so you're going to have to pay for the labor to wire. Sounds like about and hour or hour and a half. I noted a discrepancy in pricing of the rear foglight itself. On various forums, the rear foglight costs $23US? In Canada, I was quoted $41CDN. Though I think that's taxes in. So I'm looking at about $200CDN to have a rear foglight added (about $160US). Is this worth it? I am wondering if there is a red or other colored reflector that can replace that plastic grill panel instead. Hopefully in the under $10 range. |

Offline | I bought the parts, fitted them myself, then had the dealer activate it free of charge (surprised). I was quoted at 1/2 hour labor to activate ($50). The parts were about $100 USD ($25 for the light and $75 for the toggle panel). Easy to do. By the way, my December build was prewired. I think it is October 04 and beyond that come prewired. No idea on the fronts though. Mine came with them. |

Offline | I used Gr8Dain's instructions (available on here someplace) and fitted ours as well ![]() We have yet to get them activated - figured we'd wait until the first service. Our car was a 26 Oct. build, and it was pre-wired. IIRC, the wiring is standard after 14 Oct. 2004 or so. The taillights are different for the 2005 models, though there have been some people putting 2005 lights on earlier cars, so I'm guessing you could put older lights in a 2005. The older lights are also wired for rear fogs (you still need the switch and activation, just not the lamp assembly). There are instructions in the FAQs, but I don't know what you would have to do to get your 2005 wiring to talk to the earlier rear fogs. If you are planning on having the front fogs installed as well, you can get the switch bank that has "all the slots filled". I'll bet if you asked the dealer for a quote on fronts and rears separately, they would quote you twice for a new switch panel... -Eric |

Offline | Thanks Eric, but my instructions were simply additions to the FAQ to highlight my experience. As well as what I found different in my 2005 model. Glad things went well for you. Good luck on the activation. I hope your dealer is as nice as mine was regarding the price. Dain |
